ABA Foundation Accepting Donations to Support Florida Hurricane Relief Efforts

At the request of the Florida Bankers Association, the ABA Foundation is soliciting donations from across the country to help with relief efforts in the wake of the devastation caused by Hurricane Ian.

the ABA Foundation and the Florida Bankers Association are asking members of the banking industry to step up and help as bankers always do in times of need. One hundred percent of the funds raised through ABA Foundation’s Disaster Relief Program will go to the Volunteer Florida Foundation’s “Florida Disaster Fund” which will distribute donations to service organizations aiding with disaster response and recovery in the aftermath of Hurricane Ian. While we encourage members of the banking industry to contribute to this effort, we invite anyone to donate here. Donations will be accepted until November 9, 2022, and all donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

Bank CEOs Testify Before Congressional Committees on Financial Services

On September 21 and 22, chief executives from the nation’s seven largest banks faced questioning before Congress, marking the third time senior bank officers have testified before Congress in the last three years. Senators remarked that only two were the same due to changes in CEOs and a decision to bring in super-regionals.

The first day of hearings took place before the House Committee on Financial Services. Committee Chairwoman Maxine Waters (D-CA) delivered opening remarks titled, “Holding Megabanks Accountable: Oversight of America’s Largest Consumer Facing Banks,” which highlighted key hearing topics. “Our nation continues to battle an ongoing pandemic, inflation that’s affecting every household’s budget, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, rising interest rates, and other crises that have battered our economy. In this environment, the role that banks play to protect consumers and provide access to affordable credit is absolutely critical."
