| The U.S. Federal Reserve (Fed) lowered the fed funds rate target range by 50 basis points (bps) to 4.75%-5.00% last Wednesday, the first cut in over four years. U.S. Equities traded higher on the news with the S&P 500, Nasdaq Composite, Dow Jones Industrial Average up 1.4%, 1.5%, and 1.6% over the week, respectively. The S&P 500 closed above 5,700 last Thursday, the index’s first all-time high since July 16. The Russell 2000 Small-cap benchmark spiked 2% on Thursday alone. Yields finished last week slightly higher with the yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury closing on Friday at 3.74%. Gold prices reached yet another milestone, closing above $2,600 per troy ounce last Friday. U.S. economic news was dominated by the rate decision with Chairman Powell highlighting a still-strong economy, cooling inflation data, and greater attention toward the employment backdrop. In tandem, the Fed’s updated quarterly Summary of Economic Projections revealed that the median committee member now expects the fed funds rate to stand at 4.4% at the end of 2024, down from 5.1% in prior projections, before falling another 100 bps to 3.4% in 2025. | |

DE Dept. of Labor - Paid Leave Webinar - October 17 | |
On Thursday, October 17, the Delaware Department of Labor’s Division of Paid Leave will host its second virtual webinar of 2024, inviting all Delaware employers to join from noon to 1:30 p.m. Chris Counihan, program director, will dive deeper into program updates, upcoming deadlines, and the employer’s role in implementing and facilitating the program.
Important dates to remember for 2025:
- On January 1, 2025, employees will notice payroll deductions if their employer requires them to contribute to the cost of Delaware Paid Leave.
- April 30, 2025, is the first due date for quarterly contributions to Delaware Paid Leave. Employers must begin submitting wage and hour reports on a quarterly basis.
