2023 STA DC Spring Update: Women in Finance (And Washington)

By Inessa Ruffman

JonesTrading & STA WIF Chair

Thank you to all who virtually attended our DC Spring Update on April 19! Part of our impressive lineup featured women across the regulatory and financial spaces, weighing in on a number of important issues facing our markets today and in the coming year:

Giang Bui, Head of U.S. Exchange Traded Products, Nasdaq

Jeanine Hightower-Sellitto, Chief Strategy Officer, EDX Markets

Rep. Brittany Pettersen (CO), Member, House Financial Services Committee

Mahlet Makonnen, Principal, Williams & Jensen

Cass Sanford, Deputy General Counsel, OTC Markets Group

Our program featured an interview with Rep. Brittany Pettersen, moderated by Cass Sanford of OTC Markets. As the first woman to represent Colorado's 7th District, Rep. Pettersen spoke on the growing number of women serving in Congress, her gratitude for the women in office who have served before her, and the opportunities for women and mothers serving. Rep. Pettersen also discussed the whirlwind of her first 100 days in Congress - which included the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank - her personal dedication to increased mental health awareness nationwide, and much more.

We'd like to thank the women who made this event possible and all who attended for supporting the important work of STA! We look forward to continuing our effort as an organization to #PutHerOnThePanel at our 90th Annual Market Structure Conference in October.
