What to Do about DC Water Damage Complaints

Recently, many DC Water consumers have contacted the Office of the People’s Counsel for assistance with insurance claims to cover residential property damage they say results from construction work performed by DC Water near their homes. OPC is unable to provide direct assistance with your claim, as this particular issue is outside our statutory authority. However, we share the following recommendations:

You can file a claim directly on DC Water’s website at www.dcwater.com/claims or call 202-787-2050. You also can email DC Water’s Risk Management Department at RiskManagement@dcwater.com.

Once you file a claim with DC Water, a third party insurance company will conduct an investigation and make a determination.

If you receive an unsatisfactory result through DC Water's insurance claims process, then you may contact the DC Department of Insurance, Securities & Banking at https://disb.dc.gov/service/file-complaint-or-report-fraud.

The department’s Consumer Services Division can be reached by email at disbcomplaints@dc.gov or by phone at (202) 727-8000. You may also seek immediate relief from your homeowner’s insurance to assist with limiting further property damage.
