CELEBRATING DETROIT PROFESSIONALS!
Michigan College Access Network (MCAN) and San Diego State University’s Center for Equity and Postsecondary Attainment have announced this year's cohort of participants in the School Counselor Fellows Program. The program provides Michigan school counselors with ongoing mentorship and training rooted in leadership and advocacy development for postsecondary attainment. Several Detroit counselors were selected for the cohort:

  • Carlotta Prince, Lincoln-King High School
  • Tim Ossman Jr., University Prep Art & Design High School
  • Danielle Penson, Southeastern High School

Congratulations to each counselor selected. We are proud of your dedication to college access and success and most importantly to the students in Detroit!
DCAN INITIAITIVES
REGISTER FOR OUR FOCUS GROUP
In order to improve the programming for the Detroit College Access Network, we have partnered with the evaluation team from the Center for Education Design, Evaluation, and Research (CEDER) to invite you to participate in a one hour evaluation!

In the focus group, you will be asked about your experience with DCAN, how DCAN has impacted your work, and any opportunities for improvement.

After participating in the focus group, you will receive a $25 Amazon gift card. Please complete the form before the end of the day on January 28th.
POSTSECONDARY PATHWAY CONNECTION: SKILLED TRADE SERIES
Interested in connecting with skilled trade programs to learn more about opportunities available to your students? Tune in to the Pathway Connection Trade series! Trade programs will present on their specific program, resources and opportunities. Learn about the enrollment process/requirements, financial aid options, career alignment and more.

Trade Pathway Connections will take place from January 24th - February 25th on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at either 9:30 am or 1:00pm. You are welcome to attend all sessions or sign up for the session that interest you. New programs will continue to be added.

DETROIT STRIVES
Spring Sessions are Now Open for Registrations!
Detroit STRIVES is a professional development opportunity with one hour for college access topics and one hour on FAFSA strategy and completion. You can partake in the portion that is most relevant to you! This will be hosted every 2nd Thursday of the Month. For more information, contact Daniel Valentine, at dvalentine@detroitcan.org.

Our friends over at Get Schooled just dropped 10, $1,000 scholarships that students should apply for. The application is quick and easy - all students have to do is briefly answer the question: What community care activities help you fill up your cup?

What is community care? Community care is taking action with the intention of helping other people. It can be as simple as calling a family member who lives alone, or dropping off meals to a nearby shelter.
