Below, you'll find steps on how to sign up and additional resources as we open the door to opportunity for Detroit students.

If you did not participate last year or haven't got around to signing up this year, no worries.

To participate all you need to do is: 

  1. Register for College Bound Michigan (CBMI
  2. Create College Data Tracker (DCAN Tracker)
  3. Meet w/students (virtually/in-person) for college planning meetings
  4. Host application drives (College Month Resources)
  5. Record where students are applying in College Data Tracker 
  6. Submit College Month Data by Nov. 15, 2020

Detroit STRIVES is a professional development series for those who support students with college access.

11 a.m.: Financial Aid: Tracking for Seniors
Submit your Data Use Agreements ASAP!

Be sure you submit your school's Data Use Agreement with Michigan Department of Treasury 
to gain access to your students' FAFSA completion status as the data becomes available.

AMBASSADORS UPDATES
College Bound kickoff recap and save the date: FAFSA & Fajita Fest Oct. 31!
College Bound kickoff recap
More than 100 students engaged in the virtual and in-person celebration. Students who attended hailed from schools such as Detroit School of Arts, Voyageur College Prep, Renaissance High School and others. 
 
Participating universities:
  • Wayne State 
  • Western Michigan
  • University of Michigan Ann Arbor
  • Cleary University 
  • Saginaw Valley State University

During the in-person session, students were able to play a life-size College Bound Life Game, participate in an escape room, meet different college reps and shop with local vendors.

Students who met the participation requirements received a $5 Starbucks Card. Shoutout to Isiah Smith from Renaissance High School and Lena McDonald from University Prep Science and Math for winning Amazon gift cards!

MCAN UPDATES
State Budget Protects Higher Education
The Michigan budget deal announced last week morning demonstrated that higher education is a priority for the state legislature and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

Roadmap to Opportunity Professional Development Series
This virtual training offers counselors, college advisers, and others the opportunity to learn more about stackable credentials and supporting students pursuing in-demand fields. Community college experts and high school leaders will share ways to utilize Roadmap to Opportunity assets.
