PREPARING FOR THE SAT
Remind Your Students to Start Now!
The SAT is coming and we want you and your students to be ready. April 13th will be the Michigan statewide sitting and April 27th is the retake! Although many higher education institutions have become test optional, we are still encouraging students to take the SAT and take it seriously. Here are some tips for students to calm test anxiety:

  • Come prepared! Khan Academy offers free test prep for students and tailors a personalized program to their unique strengths and areas for growth. Studies have shown studying with Khan Academy for 6 hours is associated with a 90 point increase on the SAT.
  • Practice positive self-talk. Having a positive outlook allows people to cope with stressful situations. Recite an affirmation that gives you confidence.
  • Let go of perfectionism. Learn the most important concepts instead of obsessing over small details. Understanding the bigger picture will help students guess on trickier questions.

Please take a look through College Board's educator guide linked below. We will be following up with more information about interpreting scores after the test!
SKILLED TRADE ENROLLMENT DAY
All Students are Welcome!
DCAN is holding its first ever Skilled Trade Enrollment Day on May 27th, 2021! This event is for high school seniors to understand and complete the trade program enrollment process. DCAN will highlight trade programs from our event partners by sharing application information.

Only students who have applied to a partner program will be invited to the event. Students will meet with program reps and attend workshops on professionalism and career readiness.

SUMMER MELT GRANT OPPORTUNITY
Applications are Due April 2!
In partnership with Detroit Drives Degrees, we are now accepting proposals for our Summer Melt Grant Application.

This is an exciting opportunity for high schools, school districts, and community-based organizations in Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb Counties to implement summer melt programming from April to the end of August.

We aim to have awardees in every county to ensure Class of 2021 seniors across the region receive the support that they need to make it to their program of choice this fall. Special consideration will be given to schools and organizations that prioritize serving high-need students.

The deadline for submission is Friday, April 2, 2021 at 11:59pm.
