HAPPY NATIONAL SCHOOL COUNSELING WEEK
School Counselors: All In For All Students
National School Counseling Week 2021 is meant to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems.

Sponsored by American School Counselor Association, this week celebrates and highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career.

In this newsletter, we are featuring several counselors that go above and beyond for their students and their success. On behalf of the DCAN staff, we'd like to thank all counselors for the important work they do. We could not drive our work forward without them.

Why are you all in for school counseling?

"I am all in for school counseling because I enjoy being able to make a tremendous impact in the lives of students and our community. It is a blessing to play a part in helping and watching students develop and grow as they embark upon their plans for their futures."

Why are you all in for your students?

"I am all in for my students because I understand the difference just one person can make in a student's life. We hope students have several to count on as their support system. However, even if they don't, I want my students to know that I support them, believe in them, and want the best for them. I want them to succeed and am committed to walking with them along their journey."
Madison Freeman, Old Redford Academy
Why are you all in for school counseling?

"I am all in for school counseling because it is my responsibility to advocate for all students; all students are capable of learning and becoming their best selves."

Why are you all in for your students?

"I am all in for my students because my students deserve my best. I am a student-first counselor, and I will always do what is best for students."
Millicynt Horton, Benjamin Carson High School of Science and Medicine
Why are you all in for school counseling?

"I am all in for school counseling because I absolutely love and enjoy what I do! School counselors carry the responsibility of providing guidance and support to students as they navigate through school and plan their future.

This is a heavy responsibility to have at times, especially as a High School Counselor because we are supporting students during such a delicate time in their lives; but having the opportunity to witness my students achieve, overcome obstacles, and grow into independent young adults, makes it worth it!"

Why are you all in for your students?

"I am all in for my students because they deserve the best that I can give them every day that I come to work. Schools are educational institutions, but what brings many of our kids to school is the need to feel connected, supported and loved. That is what drives and motivates me to be the counselor that I am because when students feel connected and supported, they have a better educational experience. "
Bushra Hussain, Frontier International Academy

Why are you all in for school counseling?

"I’m all in for school counseling because I can provide support for educational and personal needs."

Why are you all in for your students?

"I’m all in for my students because working with them makes my job as an educator truly rewarding."
Carlotta Prince, Cornerstone Health and Technology High School
Why are you all in for school counseling?

"I am all in for school counseling because... we are the backbone of education. We provide support to our students, teachers, and administrators and bridge the gap between home and school life. We are a multi-tier profession that works behind the scenes to ensure our students are taken care of emotionally, academically, and socially all while teaching life skills and being the "cool" people in the building."

Why are you all in for your students?

"I am all in for my students because... they deserve love and support and to know of the many opportunities available to them if they put in the work to achieve them. Many students lack the support and care needed at home and I believe my job as a School Counselor is to help fill in those gaps."
