Making a Difference:
DCCF Scholarship Funds
Anthony Hand
Each year, the Delaware County Community Foundation awards a number of scholarships to help local high school students achieve their dream of pursuing higher education.

Anthony Hand (pictured above, right), is an example of a student who has benefited from a scholarship from the Christine and Arthur Burgee Scholarship Fund. Last month, Anthony graduated from the College of Engineering at Drexel University with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. Not only did the scholarship help Anthony financially, but it also taught him the importance of giving back to the community. Here is what Anthony had to say in a recent e-mail to DCCF:

"The Burgee Scholarship not only provided me with funding to attend school, but it also helped give me peace of mind that I could attend the school of my choice. For me, the Burgee Scholarship meant less student loans to be taken out. I am extremely grateful that I was chosen to be a recipient of the Burgee Scholarship. The invitations to apply for scholarship renewal each year reaffirmed my passion to continue in education. It also reaffirmed my self-confidence that I had the skills necessary to succeed. The help that I received from the Burgee Scholarship has taught me the importance of offering support to those in need, whether it is financially or in another way. It is my sincere hope that I can someday be in the position to serve as a meaningful support to someone in need, and to provide that person with the same assurance that Burgee Scholarship has provided for me."

Anthony has already had numerous job offers in his chosen field and will be working as a design engineer at a consulting company in Philadelphia.

We offer our sincere congratulations to Anthony and to other students like him who have been able to pursue their dreams because of the generosity of people like you.
