President’s Message

I hope everyone has settled back in to their routines with school and PTA after a very busy holiday season. It’s hard to believe that half of the school year has already passed! I have been so excited to see our PTA Memberships increasing in our schools and the number of PTAs we are starting to re-organize. February looks to be another busy month to help other PTAs get started back up.

National PTA Founder’s Day is February 17th when we celebrate the work of our founders Alice McLellan Birney, Selena Sloan Butler and Phoebe Apperson Hearst who wanted to better the lives of every child in education, safety and health. This day is a time to reflect and take pride in our achievements and renew our commitment to be a powerful voice for ALL children, be a relevant resource for parents and also be a strong advocate for public education. There are some great YouTube videos on National PTA’s website on Founder’s Day. Please join us at our next General Meeting on Tuesday, February 22nd when DCCPTA will recognize our past presidents in the celebration of Founder’s Day.

Applications are now open for Duval County families and School Choice. School Choice allows families to consider schools in our district based on many educational options that are available to our students and allows them to attend a school outside of their zone. All applications must be completed by Monday, February 28th.

We are trying to ensure that our communications are reaching you and need your input. We would like to hear from you whether you prefer emails, posting on our Facebook Page, Twitter or Instagram as a means of communicating with you. You can email me at president@dccpta.org so that I can share this information with the DCCPTA Board Members.

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!
