DCHC to Hold Informational Sessions about AFib
Medical condition can lead to stroke and heart failure
Atrial fibrillation AFib
NEW ORLEANS, LAAfrican Americans are disproportionately at risk for atrial fibrillation (AFib), a complex condition that, if unrecognized or untreated, can lead to stroke and poor cardiovascular health. AFib is an irregular and often very rapid heart rhythm (arrhythmia) that can lead to blood clots in the heart.

DePaul Community Health Centers will present a brief AFib community education program on three consecutive Wednesdays—November 3rd, November 10th and November 17th—at its St. Cecilia health center, 1030 Lesseps Street in New Orleans, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The program is free and open to the public. To register, email Marian Ulasiewicz at [email protected] and specify your date to attend. The informational sessions will incorporate education about AFib and how to recognize and prevent it.

Attendees will also receive information about community resources available in the St. Cecilia neighborhood to promote the benefits of regular physical activity at places such as NORD.

For more information, email [email protected].
