Dear DCI School Community,

We have so many things to celebrate and look forward to this month at DCI, from student showcases to a family picnic to celebrating our staff this week for Staff Appreciation Week (a HUGE thank you to all who have donated snacks for our staff this week!), and we are also sensitive to the climate in and around our community at this time. On Tuesday we shared a community message alerting families that US Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents were in the area and may be targeting food service workers and delivery drivers. Student safety and well-being are our number one priority and we will continue to be vigilant and forthcoming when we receive information that may impact our community. Please refer to and share the guidance and resources we have previously communicated with families.

As we continue to take care of ourselves and others, let’s embrace Mental Health Awareness Month. Our partners at MedStar WISE have resources in their May newsletter that includes information about mental health supports. DCI also has a robust mental health team with grade-level counselors, two social workers per school, and mental health partners from the city's Department of Behavioral Health, Mary's Center, and WISE – all of which are resources available to share information about mental health for both students and staff.

Thank you for being the caring community that you are – we appreciate you!

Shout Outs!

Please see below for “shout out” submissions! Thank you for recognizing our teachers and staff!

I want to give a shoutout to Ms. Ali who has always been nice to me and the class and makes lessons funny, easy, and fun!! She is one of my favorite teachers because of everything she has done for me and also shout out to Ms. Grullon who always makes sure I'm okay if I look down or sad and she is a very kind teacher.

Shout out for Mr. Stuart, he's really nice and funny. He’s really understanding and caring. He makes English a little more fun-ish.

Ms. Roxii took action when our class needed it. She is the #1 teacher. She is beyond nice and super respectful. She makes the class fun.

Please consider submitting a “shout out” to recognize your students’ teachers and staff. These will be included in each bi-weekly edition of the Dispatch. Your name will be associated with each shout out, or you can choose to shout out anonymously. Thanks!
