Dear DCI School Community,
Happy Women’s History Month! Let’s take some time to honor all of the women in our lives this month who have made us who we are today!
There is a lot going on at DCI to celebrate Women's History Month! Two clubs in particular, Female Futures and ProjectPink, focus on women’s initiatives all year long. This week, our middle school students will be participating in topics involved with Women’s History Month in class. Both 7th and 8th grade classes will choose a notable woman figure and focus on a defining historical moment in her life. The project's final product will be a creative video! Next week, our high schoolers will be learning about the significance of women's history month and will also research notable women figures, presenting their findings to their classmates.
In just two days, Saturday, March 8th, millions of people will also celebrate International Women’s Day! This year’s theme, “Accelerate Action,” is specifically calling for momentum and urgency, which really lends itself to DCI’s pillar of Student Agency. Students at DCI embrace challenges, reflect on progress and commit to taking positive action in their studies, clubs, sports and overall student life. What an important reflection point this time of year to engage with one another and ensure equity across our school community.
Shout Outs!
Thank you for our first shout out submission from February:
I would like to shout out one of the 6th grade Spanish teachers, Sr. Montalvo, for being very caring and helping people with their work. He is also very funny and makes class way more fun.
Please consider submitting a “shout out” to recognize your students’ teachers and staff. These will be included in each bi-weekly edition of the Dispatch. Your name will be associated with each shout out, or you can choose to shout out anonymously. Thanks!
What is Happening at DCI?
REMINDER: March 13th is an Asynchronous Day for Students; No School March 14th
March 13th was originally slated as a “no school” day for students given that it’s an all staff professional development day. However, we need to make up the snow day we took on Monday, January 6th. We’ll hold an asynchronous day of learning for students on Thursday, March 13th and will communicate additional details next week. In addition, DCI will be closed Friday, March 14th.
Share Input and Enter to Win $25!
At DCI, fostering an inclusive community and sense of belonging is a key goal in our 2024-2029 Strategic Plan. To better understand and strengthen family engagement, we invite you to complete two short surveys by Friday, March 28th: the OSSE Family Survey, which gathers feedback on school climate across DC schools, and the DCI Family Survey, which focuses on caregiver engagement and belonging at DCI. Both surveys are anonymous, available in multiple languages, and will take just a few minutes to complete. By completing both, you can opt into a raffle to win a $25 gift card! If you need assistance or wish to complete the surveys by phone, please contact our Family Engagement Liaison, Brian Garcia. Thank you for sharing your feedback!
