Dear DCI School Community,
Happy Hispanic Heritage Month! DCI is celebrating our Hispanic/Latino/a/x/e staff, students and families from now until October 15 through a variety of activities and events, including the outstanding yearly cultural event, La Gran Fiesta, on Saturday, Oct. 5th!
During this year’s celebration, Hispanic/Latino/a/x/e staff and students are sharing their pride and excitement for this month by providing a snapshot into their cultures. This week, our student president of the Latin X Student Union, Maria Hernandez Najera and her advisor and Spanish teacher, Monica Vivar, would like you welcome you and invite you to the celebration:
My name is Monica Vivar, I am a high school Spanish teacher and LXSTU student advisor. Myself and student President Maria Hernandez Najera together we would like to welcome the DCI community to Hispanic Heritage month which takes place between September 15th through October 15th. DCI will be celebrating with many activities throughout the month and we will have our annual La Gran Fiesta on Saturday, October 5th from 11 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. We will also be asking our DCI community to contribute to our potluck at our Gran Fiesta. We would love for you to share a dish from your country.
Gracias,
Ms.Vivar & Maria
Key Tech Updates
Chromebook Monitoring Now Available
On Friday, September 20th, all families will receive invitations to access Securly, one of our three main filtering mechanisms on the Chromebooks. This software will send a weekly email detailing your student’s Chromebook activity, as well as provide you access to the Securly Parent Portal/SecurlyHOME mobile app to also assist in monitoring. In addition, Securly also allows you to restrict various website use at home. Click here to watch a video of what the app can do! If you do not receive Securly emails, please email carlos.alfaro@dcinternationalschool.org.
Chromebook Insurance Available for Purchase
We are now working with a company called Seccuranty to provide optional Chromebook insurance for families to purchase this year. The one-year, $29.95 (per device) policy will cover the price of one screen break in addition to loss and theft, and liquid damage.
If you purchase the policy and your student’s device sustains damage, we will be able to file and manage the claim on your behalf through Seccuranty. If you have not elected to purchase insurance, you will be billed for the amount of the repair or for the depreciated cost of the device if it is irreparable.
DCI families will be able to purchase insurance for each device until Nov 1, 2024. Please click this link to purchase a plan.
Toddle Transition Reminder
We are transitioning from ManageBac to Toddle for managing student academic success (assignments and grades) and IB requirements (projects and learning portfolio). Toddle helps you stay connected with your child’s learning journey. Please reference the Toddle one-pager/FAQs for more information.
