Board Member Spotlight

Austin Laber

CMD Alternative Energy Solutions

Professional Questions:

Why did you join the DCI Board?

CMD has been a long-standing member of Wisconsin Clean Cities, where our Sales Director is currently on the board. After seeing what Drive Clean Indiana is capable of through events, education, and outreach, I knew I wanted to be part of it. Luckily, our company saw the value in me joining as well, so the stars aligned late last year, and I was able to join the board.

What is your role/contribution to the coalition as a

DCI Board Member?

With my short time so far, I'm trying to spend as much time as I can learning from the rest of this incredible board, as we are fortunate to have a team of professionals that come from all areas of expertise, backgrounds, and experiences. I'm excited to contribute in the future and help shape the future of DCI.

What DCI event do you enjoy the most?

I would have to say the DCI Annual Clean Air Golf Outing, because it is a laid-back event where we really get to talk candidly and enjoy each other's company. I also get to see just how bad a golfer I am compared to everyone else.

Personal Questions/Fun Facts:

What is something not many people know about you?

I attended Iowa State for a year and a half before realizing I wasn't smart enough to be an engineer and transferring to Ripon College for Business. I've also been happily married to my high school sweetheart, Brittany, for almost 10 years.

How do you spend your time outside of work?

I have 2 sons, so that consumes any time that I do have. We like to travel and hope to do that more as the boys grow. I'm also a night owl, so I do get to watch some TV.

Coffee or tea?

Neither! I actually gave up all caffeine about 3 years ago, so now I just dream about them and, on occasion, have a cup of sugar and cream with a touch of decaf coffee mixed in.

What's a movie or TV show you've watched recently that you'd recommend?

Just finished "The Copenhagen Test." That was a great show. On the other side of the spectrum, "Chad Powers" also had a great first season.

What is something you’re looking forward to?

Connor (5 years old) is going to be old enough for sports this summer, so that will be a new and exciting chapter. Dawson (8 months old) is already sitting, crawling, and getting into everything he's not supposed to. I am looking forward to watching both of them grow and discover new things.

We are currently in search of new Drive Clean Indiana members to join our Board of Directors. If you are interested in making a greater impact to reduce emissions and networking with like-minded industry professionals, apply to be considered for a Drive Clean Indiana Board of Directors seat.

January Highlighted Fuel

Propane, also known as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG or LP-gas) or autogas, has been used worldwide as a vehicle fuel for decades. Stored under pressure inside a tank, propane turns into a colorless, odorless liquid. As pressure is released, the liquid propane vaporizes and turns into gas that is used for combustion. An odorant, ethyl mercaptan, is added for leak detection.

The development of new, light- and medium-duty propane vehicles has surged in recent years for fleet use. Propane vehicles can either be conversions from gasoline vehicles or purchased from original equipment manufacturers.

Indiana eases driving limits for propane haulers during severe weather

Gov. Mike Braun has signed an executive order temporarily relaxing driving hour limits for propane haulers in an effort to ensure Hoosiers can access "critical heating fuel" during severe winter weather, according to a news release about the order.

He signed it on Dec. 13, stating the importance of Hoosiers having access to the fuel.

“Thousands of Hoosiers rely on propane to heat their homes and keep essential services running,” Braun said. “This waiver helps remove unnecessary barriers so propane can reach the people who need it most.”
