A Message from the Executive Director

Greetings,

Happy September! It is so good to have you all back as we begin the 2021-22 school year. I hope you enjoyed your summer and were able to spend time relaxing with loved ones. As we kick off the year, there are many things to look forward to in our programs. Our buildings are open and we are grateful for your continued cooperation in following the Health and Safety Plan. Wearing masks and other mitigation efforts will ensure we are keeping our community safe.

I would also like to extend a warm welcome to our new Human Resources Director, Patrick Tighe. We are thrilled to have you join the DCIU team!

While we continue to monitor COVID-19 and its presence in Delaware County, I hope for the opportunity to visit and see our wonderful programs in action this fall.

Welcome Back DCIU

DCIU held its Opening Day for all staff on September 2. This year's format featured a message from Dr. Maria Edelberg, DCIU Executive Director, and department updates from Dr. Joyce Mundy, Assistant to the Executive Director for Teaching and Learning, and Dr. Kevin Kane, Assistant to the Executive Director for Student Services. DCTS Program Video

Rachel Cotton, Community Resource Developer & Perkins Grant Coordinator for DCTS, recently published a video highlighting all of the programs DCTS has to offer.

The video offers great insight into the opportunities and student experience that DCTS has to offer. Make sure to check it out and share it with a student who may be interested in pursuing a Career and Technical Education at DCTS!

Summer Fun at the Family Center

The DCIU Family Center and Project ELECT families finished the summer with fun events and activities. The Family Center hosted a Summer Play Date Closing Celebration where families played Garden Bingo and made crafts.

In August, Project ELECT students and their children and their families visited Linvilla Orchards. Pictured above is Project ELECT student Mariyah and her son Jayden feeding the animals at the orchard.

Exciting Updates in DCTS Emergency and Protective Services Program

The new school year has begun and the Emergency and Protective Services program at DCTS had a busy summer implementing some exciting new updates to the program. A new bay for Engine 28 will provide more space for EPS labs to conduct instruction and classes. New equipment including a modular Live Fire Training System, a thermal imaging camera, gear, and more will allow students to learn using high quality products and equipment.

Additionally, the EPS program will be offering the Pennsylvania Department of Health and National Registry Emergency Medical Technician certifications this year, allowing students to begin working or continue their studies as a paramedic immediately upon graduating. We are excited to see what EPS students accomplish this year!

Health and Wellness

Masks Mandatory at DCIU

DCIU is following guidance from the Pennsylvania Department of Health in mandating masks in all of its buildings. We recognize the importance of this mitigation effort as we continue to keep our children and the spaces we work in safe. Thank you for complying with these measures.

Updated Health and Safety Plan

DCIU and DCTS have created a Health and Safety Plan to serve as our organization’s guidelines for all programs and services to operate safely. Our guidelines are tailored to the unique needs of DCIU and DCTS and provide for flexibility as we continue to face the COVID-19 pandemic.

On September 1, 2021, the DCIU Board of Directors approved an updated Health and Safety Plan for the 2021-22 school year. View the new plan HERE.

Benefits Information: 403(B) Plans

Delaware County IU offers our eligible employees the opportunity to save for retirement by participating in a 403(b) Tax- Sheltered Account (TSA) Plan. All employees, except for private contractors, appointed/elected trustees and/or IU board members and student workers, are eligible to participate in the 403(b) Plan immediately upon employment. You can participate in this plan by making pre-tax contributions. The 403(b) TSA Plan is a valuable retirement savings option.
