CPC-HIE Operating Committee Meets to Establish 2019 Agenda
On March 1, 2019, DCPCA and designated representatives from participating provider organizations convened the first meeting of the expanded CPC-HIE Operating Committee in the new year. This Committee was initially established to guide the implementation of the CPC-HIE and its integration with the CRISP HIE. Convening of Patient Navigators for Cancer Peer Group
DCPCA facilitated their quarterly Patient Navigators for Cancer Peer Group meeting on February 19th , hosted by Breast Care for Washington. The meeting included 20 staff from DC and Maryland, representing health centers, hospitals, and providers as well as government partners and community-based organizations including the American Cancer Society, and Prince George’s County Cancer Consortium. Health center staff presented on best practices for cancer screening and coordination, including Patient Navigators Inna Scurtu (Community of Hope), Allison Meads (Bread for the City), and Marquita Iddirisu (Family and Medical Counseling Service).

The Peer Group is open to all navigators/care coordinators/referral coordinators in the DMV who assist patients in their cancer screening and care journey. In providing a forum for peers to meet and collaborate, we aim to achieve two goals: 1) Advance the best practices of patient navigation to improve cancer screening and care; 2) Collaborate to create systems-level solutions to current challenges.

Providence Health System Creates Vision for the Future
Providence Health System has embarked on an exciting transformation to better meet the changing needs of members of its neighborhood and communities. Far from abandoning the District, Providence is building on its history and charting a new course that allows them to express their Mission in a more meaningful way. As Providence embarks on this innovative approach to improve the health of the community, its focus will be inclusive of both health and services not traditionally considered part of healthcare but that have an impact on the health of individuals and communities.

Providence is actively engaging with the community to gain input on its concept of a Healthy Village. A Healthy Village is the creation of a community resource that socially integrates healthcare and non-healthcare partners to optimize the physical, mental and financial health and well-being of a defined community. Moving forward, continued services at Providence will include Carroll Manor, hospice care, pharmacy, and primary care services. They also plan to include urgent care and a whole host of new initiatives and partnerships on the campus as part of this vision. “We want Providence to be the model for future Healthy Villages across Ascension,” says Dr. Tamarah Duperval-Brownlee, Senior Vice President and Chief Community Impact Officer for Ascension.
