Motivational Interviewing (MI) is an evidence-based communication style which aims to help providers engage patients in conversations about behavior change. Motivational Interviewing challenges the practitioner to suspend his/her drive to direct, advise, and confront.
This workshop is ideal for anyone who performs direct patient care, and who frequently engage in conversations with patients about changing their behavior (managing diabetes, quitting smoking, reducing alcohol use, adhering to medication as prescribed, etc.). Decades of research have demonstrated the effectiveness of MI as an evidence-based intervention to compassionately guide the behavior-change process. Join this workshop to learn practical MI tools that can support day-to-day patient care.
Facilitator Dr. Kathleen (Kate) Watson is the President of the Advocacy Academy, a Philadelphia-based training and consulting company. Kate has conducted trainings in 20 states, 8 countries, and across many fields: healthcare, education, social services, financial advising, victim advocacy, and corrections.
