Introduction to Motivational Interviewing
One of our most popular trainings returns!
-
Date: Wednesday, September 29, 2021
-
Time: 9:00 - 12:00 p.m. ET
-
Location: Zoom teleconference
-
Facilitator: Dr. Kate Watson of Advocacy Academy
-
Cost: Free for staff of DCPCA member health centers.
-
Registration: Click Here. There are limited seats available as this is a highly interactive training so please only sign up if you are able to attend the training in full. Please note the time commitment in the description below.
Training Overview: Motivational Interviewing (MI) is an evidence-based communication style which aims to help providers engage patients in conversations about behavior change. Motivational Interviewing challenges the practitioner to suspend his/her drive to direct, advise, and confront. This workshop is ideal for anyone who performs direct patient care, and who frequently engage in conversations with patients about changing their behavior (managing diabetes, quitting smoking, reducing alcohol use, adhering to medication as prescribed, etc.). Decades of research have demonstrated the effectiveness of MI as an evidence-based intervention to compassionately guide the behavior-change process.
Participants will learn the foundational concepts of Motivational Interviewing so they may begin to weave the skills into their everyday practice. More specifically, participants will learn to recognize change talk from sustain talk; they will learn to utilize skills like evocative questioning and reflective listening.
Training Details: This virtual training will have two parts:
1. An online self-paced course that you can take at any time in advance of the training. The course should take 3 hours.
2. A 3-hr virtual training. Please register via the link below. The training will be conducted via Zoom and include breakout groups to maximize time for practice and discussion.
