The Quality Improvement (QI) Boot Camp is geared towards any health center staff that support quality improvement, including both clinical and administrative staff. Attendees will have the opportunity to discuss key QI principles including the Model for Improvement, PDSA process, SMART goals, and quality measures. We will apply the concepts learned to real-life case studies through hands-on group exercises.
At this session, you will

- Understand core principles of quality improvement (QI)
- Practice utilizing key tools to implement effective QI, including:
- Developing a PDSA plan
- Creating SMART goals
- Conducting Root Cause Analysis

A Team-Based Approach to Blood Pressure Control: Understanding the M.A.P Framework

- Richard T. Benson, MD, PHD, Associate Medical Director of Stroke at the MedStar Washington Hospital Center with the NIH Stroke Program
- Brent M. Egan, MD, Vice-President, Research in the Care Coordination Institute, Professor of Medicine at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine.
Training Overview:
- Understand latest evidence on effective clinical care pathways for BP control.
- Understand how to implement the M.A.P. Framework, an evidence-based approach to prevention and control of hypertension developed by the American Medical Association (AMA) and Johns Hopkins Medicine. In contrast to many guidelines, the M.A.P. checklists specifically target practice teams, instead of individual clinicians, and are designed to be brief, cognitively easy to consume and recall, and accessible to healthcare workers from a range of professional backgrounds. Training will include techniques to address common challenges in MAP:
- How to close gaps in accurate assessment of BP
- How to use available treatment algorithms
- How to implement a team-based approach
Who Should Attend
: All personnel who work with hypertensive patients, measuring blood pressure or instructing patients in best practices to reduce their blood pressure which including nurses, medical providers and medical assistants.

Team-Based Approach to Blood Pressure Control Training

DCPCA has partnered with the American Heart Association (AHA) to offer an in-person training titled "A Team-Based Approach to Blood Pressure Control" for our member health centers. This training is facilitated by Dr. Richard T. Benson, Associate Medical Director of Stroke at the MedStar Washington Hospital Center with the NIH Stroke Program. DC Forensic Nurse Examiners (DCFNE) for Clinical Staff and Care Teams
|
The DC Forensic Nurse Examiners (DCFNE) has a
free 30-min to 1-hr in-person training
for clinical staff and care teams. This training covers what happens during a sexual assault forensic exam and an intimate partner violence exam, tips to responding to disclosures, and how to make referrals for forensic exams and other services. DCFNE is the sole provider of forensic nursing care for adult victims of violent crime in the District. DCFNE has expanded to offer forensic nursing care to victims of intimate partner violence and life-threatening physical assault. DCFNE provides medical exams and evidence collection to victims of sexual assault aged 13 and older.

Session Description: Selecting the right treatment options for type 2 diabetes has never been more promising, or as complicated as it is today. With all of the current classes of diabetes medications, how does a clinician-patient team decide on the most appropriate medications along the course of a person’s disease process, many of whom also have cardiovascular disease, heart failure, or chronic kidney disease? Join us to learn the latest type 2 diabetes consensus recommendations and decision-trees to help seniors and their care teams decide how to maximize care quality while mitigating risk and treatment burden. This call will feature an author of Management of Hyperglycemia in Type 2 Diabetes, 2018. A Consensus Report by the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD).
Learning Objectives:
After participating in the event, learner will be able to:
- Discuss factors affecting treatment selection for type 2 diabetes
- Use or recommend SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP-1 receptor agonists in patients with type 2 diabetes, atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, heart failure and chronic kidney disease
