Training Overview: The Quality Improvement (QI) Boot Camp is geared towards any health center staff that support quality improvement, including both clinical and administrative staff. Attendees will have the opportunity to discuss key QI principles including the Model for Improvement, PDSA process, SMART goals, and quality measures. We will apply the concepts learned to real-life case studies through hands-on group exercises.
At this session, you will:
- Understand core principles of quality improvement (QI)
- Practice utilizing key tools to implement effective QI, including:
- Developing a PDSA plan
- Creating SMART goals
- Conducting Root Cause Analysis
- Developing process flow diagrams
- Selecting appropriate quality measures

: Oral Health and Diabetes Training

- Facilitators: Dr. Sean Boynes, DMD; Dr. Mark Deutchman, MD
Training Overview: In this ½ day training program, participants will learn about the correlations between oral health and diabetes, and how providers can incorporate activities into their practice to address the unique needs of diabetic patients. Presenters will also discuss how the dental and medical teams can work collaboratively to provide a high level of interprofessional care for their patients. Specific guidance will be given related to periodontal disease , inflammation and treatment in both the medical and dental settings.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand the evidence for the reciprocal link been periodontal disease and diabetes
- Demonstrate how medications can play a role in oral health
- Outline what can be done in medical office to address oral health in diabetic patients (for medical providers)
- Outline what can be done in the dental office to address patients with who have diabetes/pre-diabetes (for dental providers)

Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) in the LGBTQI Communities Wednesday, June 19, 2019

Training Overview: Please join DCPCA and the DC Coalition Against Domestic Violence for a workshop on intimate partner violence (IPV) in the LGBTQI communities! Facilitators will provide information on the dynamics of IPV, with a specific focus on IPV in the LGBTQI community. We will discuss best practices for engaging with LGBTQI individuals experiencing IPV, including screening for IPV in the medical setting. Resources for survivors of IPV in DC will be shared. This training is designed for medical professionals and health center staff.
Learning Objectives:
- Participants will be able to define domestic violence and intimate partner violence (IPV)
- Participants will be able to identify red flags/warning signs of IPV
- Participants will learn best practices for screening for IPV in all patients, with a specific focus on screening patients who identify as LGBTQI
- Participants will understand the barriers/challenges and resources/services available to LGBTQI survivors of IPV
Who Should Attend: Providers of All Levels (Physicians (MD); Physician's Assistant (PA); Nurse Practitioners (NP); Nurses (RN); and Behavioral Health Staff

Allergy Testing for Asthmatic Patients
|
|
Are you familiar with ImmunoCAP, an IgE blood test for allergies? ImmunoCAP identifies allergic triggers. Knowing the specific triggers allows clinicians to provide recommendations to reduce symptoms and asthma exacerbations. NIH recommends IgE testing and other actions for all patients with persistent asthma. ImmunoCAP is available to DC providers and covered by health insurance.

This training will introduce ImmunoCAP and discuss how to read results, and incorporate knowledge of allergic triggers into standardized protocols for asthma care.

Team-Based Approach to Blood Pressure Control Training

The Advanced Nursing Education Workforce (ANEW) program at Penn, A4CP: ARPNs for Community Practice, will be collaborating with the HRSA-funded National Center for Integrated Behavioral Health (NCIBH) to host a day long symposium on June 1, 2019. The symposium is entitled The ANEW Way Forward: Innovations in Interprofessional Training Using Integrated Behavioral Health Models in Primary Care. This symposium seeks to generate a collaborative learning community for researchers and practitioners in behavioral health and primary care settings by addressing integrated behavioral health gaps in primary care workforce training. We have some excellent speakers lined up, offering 10 CNE/CME sessions.
