Highlight on National Suicide Prevention Week
This annual observance occurs September 8-14.
Approximately 45% of suicide victims had contact with primary care providers within one month of suicide. Visit HRSA’s webpage for resources you can trust. One resource that may be particularly useful for health center staff is Suicide Safe, a suicide prevention app available from SAMHSA. It helps health care providers integrate suicide prevention strategies into their practice.It includes patient and provider educational materials, a treatment locator, sample interactive cases, and conversation starters.

BOLD Planning Workshop 1

Training Overview:   The development of comprehensive and user-friendly Healthcare Emergency and Continuity Plan (HCECP) is of vital importance to health centers for emergency preparedness. Health centers must be prepared to continually meet patient care responsibilities in the face of a major disaster as well as during small, routine disruptions. BOLDplanning's Emergency Continuity Plan (ECP) software has been selected to assist with the development of these HCECPs for DCPCA-member health centers. In workshop #1, BOLDplanning will train health center staff on the use of the software tool and health center's will review the first draft of their facility-level plans that have been set up by BOLDplanning using health center's information.

  • Emergency Preparedness Task Force Members
  • Any DCPCA-member health center operations and administrative staff involved in emergency preparedness

  • The same workshop will be held on two days: September 11th and 12th. Please select the date that works best for your team.

Training Overview: In recognition of National Preparedness Month, DCPCA will be hosting a critical training to advance emergency preparedness capacity for our health centers. The National Ebola Training and Education Center (NETEC) will be providing a training on use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). PPE is equipment worn to minimize exposure to workplace injuries and illnesses.This is a “train-the-trainer” model so attendees will receive the information they need to train others at their organization on appropriate use of PPE. 
Who Should Attend:
  • This training is mandatory for health centers to receive free PPE for their organizations. At least one representative from each health center organization must attend this training to receive PPE.
  • Attendance is recommended for EPTF members as well as staffers that direct or manage infection

Registration: 
  • Training is free and only available to DCPCA member health centers.

Qual IT Conference - Fall 2019

Join us at our Qual IT semi-annual conference! This is expected to be our biggest and best conference  yet as we welcome our new member health centers in Maryland and New Jersey to the network! The Qual IT Care Alliance network is a partnership of HealthEfficient, DCPCA, and MACHC. Our network is growing from 27 to 36 member health centers.

Join your peers and colleagues to discuss innovations and solutions to advance your health center goals! This conference is structured for collaboration and open-discussion so you'll have a chance to learn from and collaborate with your peers. 
 
This conference will feature sessions on exciting topics, including:

  • Risk-stratification and care management 
  • Working with payers to maximize revenue and reduce denials

Training Overview: The Quality Improvement (QI) Boot Camp is geared towards any health center staff that support quality improvement, including both clinical and administrative staff. Attendees will have the opportunity to discuss and practice key QI principles including the Model for Improvement, PDSA process, SMART goals, Root Cause Analysis, process flow diagrams, and quality measures. We will apply the concepts learned to real-life case studies through hands-on group exercises.

Who Should Attend: 
  • Any health center staff that support quality improvement, including both clinical and administrative staff
  • Members of QI teams

Training Overview :  Empower your staff and introduce them to what it means to be a Patient- Centered Medical Home (PCMH)! This training will cover PCMH principles, how and why it's effective along with addressing staff members roles and responsibilities within a PCMH. This training will also highlight the day-to-day task of a clinical and non-clinical staff member and how valuable their role is to achieving PCMH recognition.

Last Call! Project ECHO for Medication-Assisted Therapy (MAT)

Who: Any provider interested in learning more about  Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT).

What:  Project ECHO is a group learning system designed for clinicians to learn from specialists and from each other to widen the scope of practice and improve quality. More simply, this will be a virtual classroom with an expert panel focused on MAT. ECHO sessions will include case consultation, collaborative learning, and knowledge share. The ECHO model™ breaks down the walls between specialty and primary care. It links expert specialist teams at an academic ‘hub’ with primary care clinicians in local communities - the 'spokes' of the model. Think virtual grand rounds, combined with mentoring and patient case presentations. Topics covered will include: SUD Care in DC, Sleep Disorders in MAT, MH Resources in DC, Community Support, Motivational Interviewing, Alcohol in OUD.

Where:  Virtually! Once you sign up, you will receive more information on how to use the Zoom virtual platform and login to sessions.

TEAM Training: Supporting Culturally-Sensitive Cancer Care
The George Washington University (GW) Cancer Center offers a new online training, Together, Equitable, Accessible, Meaningful (TEAM) . This no-cost training aims to improve the productivity of patient-provider interactions through individual and systems-level approaches, and it seeks to provide health care professionals with knowledge and strategies to support patient-provider communication and employ culturally sensitive practices.

Learning Objectives:
  • Identify factors and barriers that lead to health inequities
  • Describe how implicit bias and assumptions adversely influence patient-provider communication and care
  • Discuss strategies for culturally respectful and affirming interpersonal exchanges with patients

Free E-Learning Behavioral Intervention for Improving MAT Outcomes
SAMHSA-sponsored Provider Clinical Support Services released a free e-learning program for health professionals, Behavioral Interventions for MAT: Improving Outcomes . It provides information on four evidence-based practices that effectively treat the behavioral aspects of addiction in conjunction with MAT. Participants are eligible to receive continuing education credits upon successful completion of the program.
