Fourteen Dioceses Represented at DDG Meeting
Missioners from fourteen dioceses supporting mission teams in the Dominican Republic attended the board meeting of the Dominican Development Group in Santo Domingo on February 12, 2018. Many of them were also present at the 60th annual convention of the Diocese of the Dominican Republic on February 9-10. During that convention, Bishop Quezada recognized Missionary Karen Carroll's more than twelve years of service in both the diocesan nursing home and in the mission team support office. Karen has announced that she will be retiring in July, 2018.
At the DDG meeting, the Rev. Ed Miller, rector of St. John's Episcopal Church in McLean, VA (Diocese of Virginia), was elected president, succeeding the Rev. Deacon Beth Drew from the Diocese of Western Michigan who has served in that position for the past two years. For the draft minutes, reports and other printed information distributed at this meeting,

Bishop Quezada Blesses Donated Ambulance
On World Mission Sunday, February 11, 2018, Bishop Quezada blessed an albulance donated by the Episcopal Church of the Servant (Wilmington, Diocese of East Carolina) to the Diocese of the Dominican Republic for use in the community of Baní. Several members of the DDG's board of directors were present for this occasion at Iglesia Episcopal La Transfiguración in Baní. The Rev. Vicente Peña, vicar of La Transfiguración, was the master of ceremonies for the blessing and dedication service which was also attended by representatives of the Baní city government and its fire and rescue departments. Province IX Synod
|
Representatives from the DDG and the Diocese of the Dominican Republic recently attended the Province IX Synod meeting in the Diocese of Ecuador Litoral. During that gathering, there was also a meeting of the Province IX Development Group, which is patterned after the example of the Dominican Development Group and works to support all of the dioceses within
Province IX of The Episcopal Church: Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Central Ecuador, Ecuador Litoral, Honduras, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela.
