Dear Cienega Families,
We are now in the home stretch of our 1
st
semester. December is the month of finishing strong. Please take the time to go onto Power School and check your child's grades. High school grades are final at the end of each semester, and it is imperative that we push hard to finish strong academically. Please do not hesitate to contact your child's teachers if you need information about what you find on Power School.
December is also a great time to contribute your yearly tax credit. Tax Credit Contributions are a 100% dollar-for-dollar credit. For those that pay Arizona state taxes, for every dollar that is contributed, 100% will be returned back in their state tax return. People that are single can contribute up to $200 per year, and married couples can contribute up to $400 per year.
Many of our extra-curricular programs at Cienega depend on tax credits to function. Tax credit contributions can be given to any club, sport, fine arts program, activity, or the greatest need. I would like to thank you in advance for contributing your tax credits to any of our programs. Below is our website for tax credit contributions. This website is a much simpler and improved way to make tax credit contributions.

WINTER SPORTS (2019)

Boys soccer starts the season at 4-0 and made it to the Semi-Finals of the Brandon Bean Soccer Tournament. Nate Head had 8 goals in the tournament!
~Girls Basketball went 2-2 in the Boys Baker Tournament
~Boys Basketball in the SSVEC Classic went 3-1 and have been on a winning streak since the tournament.
~Girls Soccer made it to the Championship of the Brandon Bean Tournament. Hailey Harris was named Player of the Tournament.
Spirit-line-
Won Game Day Champions for the third year in a row. They will now attend the UCA West Coast Championships in California.

Class of 2020: Ticket to Your Future
- Cap and Gown Information: Go to jostons.com and order now. Prices will increase after December 20th.
- Graduation Information: It's official! The graduation ceremony will be on Saturday May 16thth at the Tucson Convention Center at 4:00 PM.
- Financial Aid: Students and Parents should have submitted the FAFSA form by now. Do not leave any potential free money on the table. Every College bound student needs to apply even if you don't think you qualify. Go to FAFSA.ed.gov to do this now. Click here for a worksheet.
- Colleges: In order to have the best chances of receiving scholarships or financial aid at any of the state universities, seniors should have already applied to these schools. Do not delay any longer if you have not yet applied. For out of state or private colleges, deadlines vary. Go to the specific college website for deadlines and information. Bring in your acceptance letters or enlistment paper and receive a free College Bound or Military Bound shirt to wear proudly on C2G Wednesdays and be entered into a drawing for a free iPad given away at Honors night in May.

ACT PREP
Register now for the ACT Prep courses here at Cienega. All Juniors will take a test this Spring at no cost. However, if students would like an additional opportunity to test, there are tests available in Tucson.
For only $35, your child can attend three prep courses. Students can make their payment in the bookstore and then come see Mrs. Scott in the 500 building to reserve their spot! 
FINAL EXAM INFORMATION
If you took an AZMerit test on Cienega's campus during the Spring of 2019, and earned a score of Proficient and/or Highly Proficient in English or math, you will be potentially eligible to be exempt from your English and/or math Fall Semester Final Exam.
Remember, in order to qualify for the exemption, you have to do 3 things:
1. Earn at least an 80% in your current English and/or math class
2. Have 7 or fewer absences in your English and/or math class
3. Earned the Proficient or Highly Proficient score
with Cienega

SPRING 2020 TUTORING
Cienega English and Math Departments will be offering before school, lunch, and after school tutoring this spring. This tutoring is free and is a great opportunity to get one-on-one support from a teacher. Tutoring is available most days of the week. The calendar will be released at the beginning of January 2020.

Let's Go to the Fair
Engineering, education, agriculture, construction, law, business and the military are just a few of the career paths students can explore at Cienega's annual career fair. During our half day on January 29, 2020 Cienega students will have an opportunity to meet with representatives from numerous colleges and career fields to learn more about careers of their interest - many of which set up hands-on demonstrations of the work they do. Exhibitors represent a broad spectrum of careers and colleges.
Attending a college and career fair is a fantastic way for students to do research and gather more information about various colleges, careers and to learn how to get started on their path.
At college and career fairs representatives are looking for the right students for their organizations. They want to not only spread the word about their programs to high school students, but they also want to hear what the students have to say. The representatives are there to answer any questions you may have, from work requirements to academics to how to get started on a specific educational or career path.
Attending fairs can sometimes be intimidating, but preparing properly can help give you the confidence to create meaningful connections with the representatives. To avoid being overwhelmed by the choices, here is a checklist of how to maximize your experience at a college and career fair.
Make a game plan-
Decide who you would most like to talk to
Dress the part-
Dress professionally, representative respect professional attire
Go of script-
Talk to one or two representatives from outside your main choices, you may be pleasantly surprised
Get Contact Information and Use It-
Collect business cards
Follow up with an email or phone call
Ask great questions; here are some examples:
- What do students like most about your school/career? What is the biggest complaint from students/employees?
- What kinds of students/workers are happiest at your school/place of business?
- What financial aid programs does your college offer? What are some of the benefits of your company/business?
- What academic programs are the most popular at your college? What career paths are most popular in your field?
- How would you describe the academic pressure or workload?
- Are there internships available specific to my major?
- Is training available or how does one prepare to work in your field?
- Is there job placement help for graduates?
Being prepared will help you to gain the most benefit from your college and career fair experience and set you on the path of your choice.

NJROTC HAPPENINGS

Our NJROTC Marksmanship Team competed at the 2019-2020 Civilian Marksmanship Program 3-Position State Championship, held at Ben Avery Shooting Facility, Phoenix, AZ on Saturday 30 Nov 2019. Our cadets placed 1st overall and will represent Arizona at the Regional Championship to be held 4 April 2020 in Sandy, UT.
NJROTC Cadets were invited to participate in the University of Arizona USS ARIZONA Memorial on 7 Dec 2019. They stood in formation with the Midshipman of the University of Arizona Navy ROTC unit to pay their respects to the 1,117 crew members who lost their lives on that day.
An Annual Military Inspection (AMI) was conducted on Friday, 22 November 2019 from 0800 to 1200. The purpose of the inspection is to evaluate school system program support, NJROTC facilities, administration of the program, student mentorship, reports and records, and cadet performance. Our cadets participated in a personnel inspection and a pass-in-review ceremony. The NJROTC Area Manager and military inspectors from the University of Arizona NROTC unit conducted the inspection. Our program received "outstanding" in all areas.

We are especially in need of SOUPS and CHILI'S. Please deliver your soups and chili's in a crockpot to keep them warm, don't forget about the crockpot LINERS, makes clean-up so much easier! Perishable foods can be delivered on WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 18th. Your CROCKPOTS will be ready for pick-up on Thursday, December 17th and Friday, December 18th, clean and ready for pick-up! Thank YOU!
