Culture of Belonging: We create harmony where every voice matters. We foster a culture that provides a joyful place to share our uniqueness within a global community united in song.

Diversity & Inclusion: We celebrate our differences as essential to the rich harmony that unites us. As we recognize barbershop’s African American origins and learn from our exclusionary past toward women of color, we reject discrimination and unwaveringly strive toward greater awareness, openness and understanding of each other.

These are two of Sweet Adelines International’s Guiding Principles. These Guiding Principles guide the work of the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Council and its Subcommittees.

Sweet Adelines International is committed to addressing and condemning racism, discrimination, and other forms of inequity not only with our words but with our actions. Members of Sweet Adelines International have the opportunity to serve through the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Council, the Chorus Toolkit Subcommittee, and the Song Assessment Tool Subcommittee.

Positions on the Chorus Toolkit Subcommittee and Song Assessment Tool Subcommittee will be available on May 1, 2022 (one-year terms for members of these subcommittees expire on April 30, 2022).

  • The Chorus Toolkit Subcommittee is responsible for keeping the Chorus Toolkit updated and relevant and for working closely with chorus leadership as choruses begin and/or continue their journey exploring areas of diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • The Song Assessment Tool Subcommittee oversees the administration of the Song Assessment Tool.
