Federal And State Grants Help Hunterdon Preserve 107 Farm Acres
Hunterdon County’s Freeholder Board recently took actions which will gain over $885,000 in federal and state agriculture grant funds for the preservation of two farms, totaling over 107 acres, in Franklin Township.

Freeholder Matt Holt, the Board’s liaison for Planning and Land Use, said, “Farmland preservation remains a major priority for this Board, as proven by the nearly 34,000 acres that have been preserved over the years. And we always welcome the assistance of funding partners, like the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the State Agriculture Development Committee (SADC), that help to offset major portions of the cost.”

Hunterdon's Weights And Measures Unit Provides Vital Consumer Protection Services
Inspecting over 1500 measuring devices throughout Hunterdon County in the past year, the County’s Superintendent of Weights and Measures provides a little known, but very important, consumer protection service for residents, Freeholder Sue Soloway reported at the October 15 th Freeholder meeting.

Freeholder Soloway, the Board’s liaison to the Health Department that includes the Weights and Measures Division, reported, “The mission of this consumer protection service is to ensure weighing and measuring devices throughout the County are tested for accuracy. Whenever you fill up your gas tank, make purchases at the deli counter or inflate your tires with air, all residents should be able to trust that the measurement is accurate.”

DEP Denies PennEast’s Permit Application For Pipeline
Hunterdon Freeholders Had Called On
DEP To Deny Permit
The state Department of Environmental Protection on October 8th denied PennEast’s permit application to build a $1 billion, 120-mile natural gas pipeline.

Last month, a federal appeals court ruled that PennEast can’t condemn state-owned land for construction of the pipeline, which would run from Luzerne County, Pa., to Mercer County, N.J. The ruling effectively blocked PennEast from building the line on land owned by the state of New Jersey. PennEast no longer had legal authority to build on 49 properties along the proposed route.
