NYC CERT DEP Request

Good afternoon, Herman,

NYC Emergency Management is requesting that NYC CERT members check catch basins in their area. Use NYCDEP Citywide Catch Basins Map to find the catch basins by entering your home address or using your current location. NYC CERT members can assist the Department of Environmental Protection to help avoid flooding and backups.

Operational Role:

  • Safely clearing catch basins in your area using a broom or rake
  • If the basin is clogged below the grate, file a report by calling 311
  • DO NOT attempt to lift or remove the grate

Report any actions taken by completing the form found in the following link:

Remember to always follow the NYC CERT Standard Operating Procedures when deploying (including contacting NYCEM Watch Command to deploy and stand down).

Be sure to submit your volunteer hours by clicking here. Use the DEP Support shift to report hours for this request. Don't forget your camera or smartphone! We’d like you to send any photos to us to share on social media. Send all photos to [email protected]

As NYCEM's Human Capital Bureau continues to review submissions and requests relating to the Vaccine Mandate, NYCEM will continue sharing updates and requests with membership with the understanding there is approval prior to any in-person deployments and events.

This DEP Request can be shared with members of the community as it is good practice to clear catch basins prior to a weather event like this.
