Protecting Childhood in These Times

The world feels like it’s on fire these days. Ongoing genocides in Gaza and Sudanfamine and war in the Democratic Republic of Congoeconomic collapse and protests in Iran, and an energy and fuel crisis in Cuba, compounded by US sanctions, are just a few of the global challenges we are currently experiencing. At home, children have been detained for months in immigrant detention centers around the country, fourteen states are facing budget deficits that will negatively impact schools, and child care funding and access remain depleted in many states, forcing providers across the country to close their doors.

Diversity

 Is Not Divisive

BLMAS Year of Purpose Resource

Our February Diversity Is Not Divisive Resource is the Little Justice Leaders Facebook page. This organization makes social justice education easy. Their "mission is simple: We want to make it easy for you to build classrooms and schools rooted in social justice." Their Facebook page has a ton of great resources for Black History Month.

The Black Lives Matter at School Year of Purpose expands the Week of Action by encouraging educators to center a different guiding principle each month. We will share a book related to the monthly principle. For February, the guiding principle is Unapologetically Black, and we chose the book This Hair Belongs by JaNay Brown-Wood and illustrated by Erin K. Robinson.

Do you have a favorite diversity resource you want us to share? Fill out this form! Explore our Diversity Resources here.
