First 15 boats registered will travel free from

Trieste to Istanbul and return

Istanbul, Turkey – In a generous offer of support for the 2021 ORC European Sportboat Championship held over 23-29 August, transport company DFDS has agreed to ship participating entries from Trieste, Italy to the event venue in Istanbul, Turkey. The first 15 boats to register for this special offer will receive shipping for free.

“We’re pleased to have 25 entries already from five nations,” said Fatih Ozmen, Sportive Director of the host Turkish Sailing Federation. “This generous shipping offer from DFDS should further boost our entries and interest from other nations for a competitive and popular European Championship.”

The offer from DFDS applies for sailings from 5 - 20 August that depart Trieste daily on Mondays-Thursday evenings to arrive at Pendik (on the Asian side of Istanbul) after an approximate crossing time of 64 hours. These flexible dates allow teams to also participate in the Open ORC Sport Boat Turkish National Championship being held over 13-15 August in Istanbul as a warm-up event to the Europeans. For those who enter this event, access to the commissioning facilities and moorings is free throughout the two regattas.

For boats without their own tow vehicles, organizers have offered to tow boats on trailers from the port in Pendik to the race area then back to the port again after the race for a small fee.

To take advantage of this offer, participating teams must meet these conditions:

1. Paid entry to the 2021 ORC European Sportboat Championship

2. Boat transport insurance, should be arranged by the boat’s owner

3. Appropriate customs documents, completed by boat owners at both ports…if necessary, the organizers may forward these to the customs agency in Pendik port

4. Boat shall be on its own road trailer
