A New Platform For Useful Information

Fiscal Year 2018 is underway and the Department of For-Hire Vehicles is committed to ensuring that consumers - both residents and visitors - have safe, accessible, reliable, and affordable transportation options. So addressing competition among operators and meeting the demands of passengers are the agency priorities.

We are introducing the DC Glovebox as a platform for consumers and stakeholders to find useful information. And just like a glove box in a car, you can find almost anything - blog posts, podcasts, videos - and stay up to date with the latest news and trends about the evolution of the for-hire industry .

Also, Daylight Savings Time begins Sunday, November 5th at 2:00 am. So get ready to "fall back" and turn your clocks back one hour on Saturday night.
Fast Charging Stations at Union Station

The public/private partnership between DFHV, ChargePoint, Transco, and Union Station has resulted in the installation of two Fast Charging Stations at Union Station for the exclusive use of the District's EV taxicabs.  This project improves the infrastructure to encourage the transition to electric taxis. DFHV provided partial funding through a competitive grant program as part of a robust plan to build out additional fast charging stations around the city; ChargePoint supports all of the technology that powers this network, from charging station hardware to energy management software to a mobile app; Transco handles the administration of these units; and Union Station provides oversight of the infrastructure and operations.

International Regulator of the Year

The International Association of Transportation Regulators (IATR) recently named DFHV Director Ernest Chrappah the "International Regulator of the Year" at their 30th Annual Conference in Austin, Texas.  The selection of Director Chrappah was based on his focus on public service, his  leadership in implementing reforms and his innovative approach to regulating the for-hire industry. These characteristics are reflected through increasing public engagement through various platforms, encouraging data transparency, leveraging technology and research, and establishing customer service standards.

"I am both honored and humbled to receive this award. However, this is not just about my accomplishment as much as an indication of the support of Mayor Bowser and the diligence of the DFHV staff," said Director Chrappah. View his full acceptance speech.
