DFHV Goes Electric
In support of Mayor Bowser's goal of making the District carbon neutral by 2050, DFHV is supporting the transition of for-hire vehicles to more energy-efficient, cleaner vehicles to establish DC as a leader in environmental sustainability.
Electric Vehicles offer numerous environmental, health, and economic advantages over gasoline-powered vehicles. EVs are cheaper to operate and maintain with electricity costing half as much as the equivalent amount of gasoline - and it doesn't contribute to air pollution by releasing harmful carbon emissions.
Our agency recently obtained an EV for use as a Vehicle Inspection Officer Vehicle, and we intend to add more EVs to our fleet. I'm also delighted to announce new regulations that will increase the service age limit for EVs from 8 years to 10.

Autonomous Vehicles Are Coming
A recent report from AAA reveals that the more exposure people have to emergency braking or adaptive cruise control, the more comfortable they are with assisted-driving technologies. Although technological and regulatory hurdles remain, trust is the number one issue limiting the use of autonomous vehicles (AVs).
By the numbers, per the AAA study:
*
71% of U.S. drivers said they would be afraid to ride in a self-driving vehicle.
*
53% said they would be comfortable with low-speed AVs at airports or theme parks.
*
44% said they would be comfortable having food or packages delivered by AVs.
* 19% said they would be comfortable using an AV to transport their children.
The report shows that 72% of respondents who have adaptive cruise control in their cars trust the technology, while only 39% among those who don't have it responded that they trust it. Additionally, 74% of respondents who have automatic emergency braking trust it, compared to 38% of those who don't have it.
Evidence of the early adoption of the technology is apparent with Voyage in Florida using AVs to ferry seniors in retirement communities. May Mobility operates low-speed AV shuttles on fixed routes in Detroit, Columbus, and other markets. Waymo (a subsidiary of Google) is running a limited Robo-Taxi service in Phoenix. Cruise, GM's self-driving unit, plans to launch a driverless taxi service later this year in San Francisco.
Despite any apprehensions, most Americans believe that AVs are coming. According to the study, 55% of drivers think that cars will have the ability to drive themselves in ten years.
