This Week's News....
Two markets left to prepare for the holiday season with local, seasonal ingredients and holiday gift ideas from our vendors!
Cold month produce from our NC farmers includes dark and tasty greens, beets, carrots, collards, herbs, sweet potatoes, and more!
We've also got local meat, such as pork, bison, beef, and lamb, aged and fresh cow and goat cheeses from award-winning dairies, passionately harvested ancient grains, and makers using seasonal ingredients to make mead, cider, and kombucha! Pick up a pastry or loaf of bread, delightful chocolate treats, and freshly roasted coffee beans!
And don't forget our lovely crafters creating breathtaking holiday wreaths, hand-made baskets, pottery, cutting boards, originally designed fabric face masks, hand-dyed & hand-made clothing, high quality soaps and lotions, jewelry and more. See below!
Please be patient as we continue to work our hardest to maintain a safe market! We are grateful to provide a means to support our farmers and crafters during this time!

|
How Can I Support the DFM?
- Volunteer to help us maintain our safety guidelines. Sign up here.
- Continue buying from our vendors in the way you feel safest.
- Come to market and follow the rules which will allow the market to remain open.
- Tell your friends that DFM is open, and if they aren't aware of the variety and quality of the locally grown meats and vegetables here, enlighten them!
- Pre-order when you can.
-
If you are able, make a
donation
here and help us fill the gap between the cost of meeting new requirements and the reduction in revenues as we operate with fewer vendors at market.

Chapel Hill Creamery
Our Holiday Moon is our popular Brie style cheese sold in a Camembert box with a festive label. A small card inside includes a poem about making this cheese. It's perfect for a small gift. The rich milk from our Jersey cows' milk becomes luscious with mushroomy flavors in this cheese that only needs some crackers or baguette to enjoy. Holiday Moon is also in our Gift box along with Thunder Mt. Swiss, YoYo, and Hickory Grove.
We have lots of cheeses this week including Thunder Mt. Swiss (aged 9 months), Ricotta, savory Hickory Grove, pungent Danziger, Carolina Moon, Calvander (our 7 month old Asiago style), Pheta, Home cheese, Dairyland Farmers, Dill Farmers, and Hot Farmers.
We are milking 31 cows and will stop milking a few that will have their babies this coming spring; they will have this rest period to make sure they are in the best health to deliver a calf. Allison tracks all the cows and will put these "dry" cows into a separate group. We have some of last spring's calves at two pieces of leased land and you can see some of them on old 86 near Calvander.
Our whey fed pork includes mild and spicy sausages, ground pork, delicious pork chops, and roasts. Check the board to see what other cuts we have for each market. We have a small amount of ground beef as well. Sausage, ground pork, cheese, and ground beef can be pre ordered through our website.
See you Saturday!

|
The 10% Campaign is a project of the Center For Environmental Farming Systems (CEFS).
The campaign encourages you to spend 10% of your existing food dollars to support North Carolina food producers, businesses and communities. Why 10%? In North Carolina, we spend $35 billion on food every year. If we spend 10% of our food dollars on local product, we can infuse over $3.5 billion into the local economy.
As avid supporters of the Durham Farmers' Market, you already know the many advantages to shopping locally. Joining this campaign will re-affirm your commitment to shopping locally and sends a strong message to policy makers about the importance of locally produced food!
