The focus of this round of BHCIP funding was determined in part by the statewide needs assessment that found significant gaps in crisis services and supported an organized continuum of crisis care services to reduce emergency department visits, hospitalizations, and incarceration.
This is the fifth of six rounds of BHCIP funding. BHCIP represents the largest provision of resources for behavioral health infrastructure in the state’s history and is part of a broader commitment by the California Health and Human Services (CalHHS) Agency to improve the state’s behavioral health continuum. It is an unprecedented opportunity to address historic gaps and attain meaningful, sustainable change in the behavioral health continuum in California.
DHCS has delayed BHCIP Round 6 grant funding in the amount of $480 million to State Fiscal Years 2024-2025 (Part I) and 2025-2026 (Part II). BHCIP Round 6 Part I planning is underway, with an anticipated release of the Request for Applications (RFA) in January 2024 and award announcements in July 2024, when funding becomes available.
