Open Enrollment for Breathe Better for Businesses
The Breathe Better for Businesses program focuses on protecting public health on local business campuses. If a business receives several deliveries in a single day, vehicle exhaust can be drawn into air vents as delivery trucks idle around loading docks. Implementing air pollution reduction strategies, such as putting up anti-idling signs (provided free of charge from DHEC), can help reduce harmful emissions and ensure a healthy work environment for everyone.
Enroll today and be a leader in your community by implementing air pollution reduction strategies to maintain good air quality in South Carolina.

Drycleaning Team Earns National Award
|
The Bureau of Land and Waste Management's Drycleaning Facility Restoration Trust Fund (DFRTF) team recently earned national recognition for exemplary engineering achievement from the American Council of Engineering Companies. The team was awarded for performing environmental assessment and contamination remediation statewide at former dry cleaning facility sites enrolled in the DFRTF program.
The mission of the DFRTF program is to clean up contaminated drycleaning sites using state contractors, all of which is paid for from the trust fund. The team administers the fund and directs and oversees the cleanup activities.
The project also received the additional honor of Diamond Award from ACEC New York this year representing engineering excellence from throughout the nation and the world.

Harmful Algal Blooms
Harmful algal blooms (HABs) occur when microscopic organisms, called phytoplankton, overgrow under the right conditions in water bodies. Not all algal blooms are harmful, but some blooms can produce toxins that affect humans, animals, and the environment. HABs are most likely to occur in late spring to early fall when water temperatures are relatively high with lots of sunlight.
Click here for more information on HABs and the current recreational advisories in effect.
