General Medicine Hospitalists

Jaclyn Vargas

Jaclyn earned her medical degree from USC and completed her internal medicine and pediatrics residency, including a pediatric chief resident year, at LAC + USC Medical Center. She recently served as a hospitalist on faculty at both the VA Medical Center and Rady Children's Hospital. She loves spending her time reading, baking, and exploring the outdoors on hikes. Jaclyn's go-to TV show is Parks and Recreation. If she could be anywhere in the world, she'd be lounging on a warm, sunny beach with her feet in the sand and a good book in hand.

Ethan Morris

Ethan earned his medical degree from Johns Hopkins and completed his residency at Stanford. He enjoys spending his free time playing basketball and unwinding with his favorite TV show, Severance. If he could be anywhere right now, he'd choose to be skiing all day on a mountain in Colorado. As a child, Ethan dreamed of becoming a landscape designer, a passion sparked by his early fascination with HGTV.

Alanna Williams

Alanna earned her medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine and completed her residency at UCSF. In her spare time, she loves eating, practicing yoga, reading fiction, exploring museums, and unwinding with terrible reality TV. Alanna's favorite comfort food is a Jamaican patty—it reminds her of home and holds a special place in her heart. One of her fondest childhood memories is going straight to the beach after school on Fridays. The Lord of the Rings books and movies had a lasting impact on her growing up — she even used to recite much of the first film by heart. If she could have any superpower, it would be invisibility.

Bryan Bourdeau

Bryan earned his medical degree from Thomas Jefferson University, completed his residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and most recently was a hospitalist at Massachusetts General Hospital. Bryan loves spending his spare time cooking, traveling, and going to concerts. His favorite TV show is Severance. If he could be anywhere right now, he’d be skiing somewhere. On Sunday mornings, you’ll usually find him slowly sipping coffee and reading on his couch.

Arian Hatefi

Arian earned his medical degree from Emory University, completed his residency at UCSF, and was on faculty in DHM from 2014 onwards. He most recently served as a Public Health Medical Officer at the California Department of Public Health.

Anand Habib

Anand earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical School, completed his residency at UCSF, and then was a nocturnist in DHM. He recently completed his fellowship in the National Clinician Scholars Program & Kirschstein NRSA Award at Yale University. He loves spending time outdoors—anywhere there's a eucalyptus grove or a stand of redwoods. Anand has a lovable cat named Artie. His favorite food is knafeh, and his favorite TV show is Schitt's Creek. If he could be anywhere, you'd find him hiking along an alpine ridgeline under sunny skies.

Michael Dias

Mike earned his medical degree from Florida International University, completed his residency, and most recently served as a hospitalist on the faculty at the University of Michigan. He loves spending his spare time reading, gardening, birding, and exercising. Mike has a Labradoodle named Clover. His favorite food is churrasco, and his favorite TV show is The Wire. Something that most people don't know about him is that he used to breed aquarium fish and keep nano reef aquariums. He wanted to be a marine biologist when he grew up. On Sunday mornings, you'll usually find Mike drinking coffee and tending to his plants on the deck.

Mary Welter

Mary earned her medical degree from UC Davis, completed her residency at UCSF, and most recently completed her Academic Hospital Medicine Fellowship at UCSF. In her spare time, she loves reading mysteries and hardboiled detective fiction, visiting new exhibits at the Legion of Honor and de Young, and going on a run in the Marin Headlands.

Durga Prasad Kullakanda

Durga earned his medical degree and completed his residency at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. Most people don't know that he has a talent for making small leather goods in his free time. If we went to happy hour, you'd find him ordering extra-hot buffalo wings and a beer. On Sunday mornings, you'd find him watching a Formula One race — if it's on.

Chih Yao "Jeffrey" Chang

Jeffrey earned his medical degree from Peking University Health Science Center and completed his residency at UCSF St. Mary's Hospital. He resides in Japantown, which is way too close to good ramen and far too many dessert shops. In his spare time, he loves working out, practicing jiu-jitsu, and exploring new music (he's totally open to recommendations). Jeffrey's favorite food is a toss-up between a good bowl of Taiwanese beef noodle soup and late-night In-N-Out. If he could be anywhere, he'd be in Bali — ideally on the beach at mid-sunset.

Emily Hong

Emily earned her medical degree from Loma Linda University and completed her residency at the California Pacific Medical Center. She enjoys playing video games in her spare time. Her favorite TV show is Brooklyn Nine-Nine. If she could be anywhere, she'd be in the Maldives.

Liam King

Liam earned his medical degree from UCSD and completed his residency at UCSF. In his spare time, he enjoys birdwatching, playing bridge, and indulging in other charmingly geriatric hobbies. He shares his home with one adorable, slightly clueless cat named Figo. His favorite food is street tacos.
