Thursday, August 25th
Orientation Day is coming up on Thursday, August 25th. This is a chance for students to drop in and meet their Team of Teachers and find their TA (homeroom) classroom. Visit anytime during your child's grade level window - look forward to seeing you there!
- 6th Grade - 8:00-9:30am
- 7th Grade - 10:00-11:30am
- 8th Grade - 1:00-2:30pm

Support the Cherrydale Safeway School Fundraiser through August!
This August, as we prepare to go back to school, Dorothy Hamm Middle School is participating in Safeway Foundation’s 6th Annual School Spirit fundraising campaign.
Safeway Foundation and our local Safeway store at 3713 Langston Blvd, Arlington, VA will be collecting monetary donations on behalf of DHMS. All funds raised at the store will be donated to our school to help us with supplies and/or projects.

Join the DHMS PTSA & Mark Your Calendar for PTSA Meetings
Please consider joining the PTSA this year. Your $10 per adult (parent and faculty) and $5 per student is for the whole year. To join online, visit dhmsptsa.org, or to pay by cash/check, you can download the paper form: DHMS PTSA Membership Form. Our PTSA serves all Dorothy Hamm families. ***Join the DHMS PTSA and receive a free raffle entry for a VIP ride to school for 1 student and a friend in an ACPD police cruiser.***
Add PTSA meetings to your calendar. General membership meetings are hybrid, held every second Tuesday of the month at 7p.m.: in-person at Dorothy Hamm Middle School and virtually via Zoom. With your help, we can make the 2022-2023 school year as good as summer break! Do it for the kids!

Opt Into the Online DHMS PTSA Directory
Beginning August 22nd, make sure to complete the APS Online Verification Process (AOVP) in ParentVUE to opt into the Online DHMS PTSA Directory (under "PTA Directory Information").
The online DHMS PTSA Directory allows parents to communicate with other DHMS parents. You can search by Name, Grade, or TA for students who choose to opt into the PTSA Directory. For additional details, visit: dorothyhamm.apsva.us/ptsa/ptsa-directory

DHMS School Supply List
The DHMS School Supply List for students has been posted on the DHMS Main Webpage. This is the general list; teachers may ask for students to bring a few additional items at the beginning of the year.

Submit Your Sports Physicals for 2022-23
Physicals are required for every student who wishes to try out or play on any sports team. Completed physicals can be mailed or dropped off to the DHMS Main Office after August 8. Click here for a copy of the form.

Calling All Artists: DHMS Reflections Contest
If your Phoenix student has energy to burn, please encourage them to participate in the National PTA Reflections Contest. This year’s theme is “Show Your Voice!” Students can create anything that reflects that theme (art, music, literature, film, dance). Entries will be collected in September. Visit pta.org/home/programs/reflections for details.

Events for Rising 9th Graders @ Washington-Liberty HS

Summer Tour Dates (2pm): Aug. 10th. Enter through Door 1.

Ice Cream Social / Open House (6 – 8pm): August 23rd. The Scoops 2 U Ice Cream Truck will be located in front Door 5 in the Bus Lane.

W-L Virtual Orientation (7 – 8:30p): August 24th – Link provided closer to date. This orientation will cover many technical aspects of life at W-L. 9th graders will get specific information during this session just for them. A google form will be sent to families where you can submit questions before the event. This event will be recorded. Spanish Simultaneous Translation will be provided.
