Dorothy Hamm MS Orientation Day
Thursday, August 25th
DHMS Orientation Day is coming up THIS Thursday, August 25th! Students and families are invited to visit their TA teacher and the DHMS building on Thursday, August 25th. There is no formal presentation – please check in with your TA teacher. You can also meet the other teachers on your team, buy DHMS Swag and/or join the PTSA in our cafeteria, and take the time to read our historic panels off the driveway. Parking will be very tight; walking is suggested if possible – or, park on Military Road near the Cherrydale Library and walk from there.
- 6th Grade - 8:00-9:30am
- 7th Grade - 10:00-11:30am
- 8th Grade - 1:00-2:30pm

Volunteers & Donations Needed: DHMS Teacher/Staff Breakfast
Friday, August 26th
Please help us welcome our wonderful teachers and staff back to school and kick off the year right! We need your donations for the Teacher/Staff Back to School Staff Breakfast on Friday, August 26th. All non-perishable items may be dropped off in the Hamm lobby during open house on Thursday, August 25th. All other food may be dropped off, starting at 7:30 AM in the cafeteria. Support the Cherrydale Safeway School Fundraiser through August!
This August, as we prepare to go back to school, Dorothy Hamm Middle School is participating in Safeway Foundation’s 6th Annual School Spirit fundraising campaign.
Safeway Foundation and our local Safeway store at 3713 Langston Blvd, Arlington, VA will be collecting monetary donations on behalf of DHMS. All funds raised at the store will be donated to our school to help us with supplies and/or projects.

Join the DHMS PTSA & Mark Your Calendar for PTSA Meetings
Please consider joining the PTSA this year. Your $10 per adult (parent and faculty) and $5 per student is for the whole year. To join online, visit dhmsptsa.org, or to pay by cash/check, you can download the paper form: DHMS PTSA Membership Form. Our PTSA serves all Dorothy Hamm families. ***Join the DHMS PTSA and receive a free raffle entry for a VIP ride to school for 1 student and a friend in an ACPD police cruiser.***
Add PTSA meetings to your calendar. General membership meetings are hybrid, held every second Tuesday of the month at 7p.m.: in-person at Dorothy Hamm Middle School and virtually via Zoom. With your help, we can make the 2022-2023 school year as good as summer break! Do it for the kids!

Opt Into the Online DHMS PTSA Directory
Beginning August 22nd, make sure to complete the APS Online Verification Process (AOVP) in ParentVUE to opt into the Online DHMS PTSA Directory (under "PTA Directory Information").
The online DHMS PTSA Directory allows parents to communicate with other DHMS parents. You can search by Name, Grade, or TA for students who choose to opt into the PTSA Directory. For additional details, visit: dorothyhamm.apsva.us/ptsa/ptsa-directory

Submit Your Sports Physicals for 2022-23
Physicals are required for every student who wishes to try out or play on any sports team. Completed physicals can be mailed or dropped off to the DHMS Main Office after August 8. Click here for a copy of the form.

Calling All Artists: DHMS Reflections Contest
If your Phoenix student has energy to burn, please encourage them to participate in the National PTA Reflections Contest. This year’s theme is “Show Your Voice!” Students can create anything that reflects that theme (art, music, literature, film, dance). Entries will be collected in September.
