Speakers: Christine Katcher and Phyllis Thompson
- Christine Katcher, LCSW, has been a social worker with Arlington Public Schools for almost 4 decades. She currently works at DHMS as the Intervention Counselor. Her experience of students and their parents is broad, ranging from preschool through high school. Some of her professional experience includes direct counseling, parent training, special education, social emotional education, and professional mentoring. She loves spending time with her family, including 4 adult children.
- Phyllis Thompson, LCSW, has recently retired from APS where she served as a school social worker, focusing on students with significant disabilities and supporting their families. Previous areas of her career include child abuse prevention, marriage and family therapy, and parenting skill building. Phyllis is the parent of two adult children.

DHMS School Resource Room
The school’s resource room includes food, hygiene items, school supplies, and warm clothes. Offerings vary per month. Here are some of the items you can expect:
- Food: pasta, rice, canned goods, peanut butter, cereals, snacks
- Hygiene items: laundry detergent, soaps feminine hygiene products, toothpaste/brushes
- School supplies: binders, notebooks, pencils, backpacks, lunch boxes
- Warm clothes: jackets, sweatshirts, gloves, socks
The school social worker is also able to locate and order items by request. To make an appointment to visit the resource room, have items sent home with your student, or request items, contact Gabby Bomberg or (703)-946-9032.

The online DHMS Spirit Wear store is open all year round! You may order anytime and items will be shipped to your home address. Donate Your Plastic Film Waste & Help DHMS Win a Trex Bench
The DHMS Green Team is setting our sights on winning a super cool Trex bench for our school if we can collect 1000 pounds of plastic recycling material. Bring in your CLEAN, DRY plastic film waste like newspaper sleeves, plastic grocery bags, bubble wrap and all of those empty shipping envelopes. Just drop it in the plastic bins in the hallway near the front office and we'll do the rest. Please make sure all of the plastic is CLEAN, DRY and FREE of FOOD RESIDUE.

APS 7th Grade Students: George Mason University EIP Prep Program
To 7th Grade Students, George Mason University runs a program called the Early Identification Program (EIP) Prep which begins in 8th grade.
The EIP Prep is designed to support students academically and personally through numerous activities and events. EIP Prep students are provided with weekly tutoring, mentoring, financial aid, goal setting, study skills, and a wide range of seminars that focus on college prep and admissions. In addition, EIP Prep students and parents attend a family seminar that focuses on family communication, advocacy, and planning for college. Students who successfully complete EIP Prep will transition into EIP for grades 9-12.
