DHMS KidsGiving Drive for The Clothesline for Arlington Kids

DHMS KidsGiving is collecting gently-used clothing for kids in grades K-8 for The Clothesline, a nonprofit which provides clothing for Arlington families in need. Drop off your donations in the orange box near the main office at door 1. The collection drive will end on 3/21/23. Thank you!

Thank You for Supporting the DHMS PTSA Phoenix Fund

We would like to thank all of the DHMS families who have donated to the Phoenix Fund already this year. We encourage all of our families who can donate to the Phoenix Fund to do so by visiting DHMS PTSA Open Donations anytime throughout the school year. We are grateful for your support!

Special thanks to the following families for their donations this week: Cara Marshall, Noelle Williams, Jennifer Carney, Jane Wishneff, A Hodges, Michelle Brydges, Jennifer Luken, Patricia Petty, Mike Kalten, Heather McIntire, Jennifer Hyzer, and Kimberly Stock. Magnets will be available for pickup from the front office.

Thanks to your generous contribution to the Phoenix Fund, the PTSA will sponsor a second round of classroom grants this academic year. The classroom grants program provides teachers and counselors with financial support for curricular programs, activities and/or materials not normally covered by APS. For this second round of grants we will prioritize awards that are student-centered and educationally-focused.

DHMS Plastic Film Recycling Challenge

Keep recycling your plastic film as part of DHMS's challenge to collect plastic film to be reused in composite decking. Here’s what to do:

1. Collect plastic film listed on the acceptable list.

2. Weigh your plastic film. (Kids on a bathroom scale with and without the plastic film is a great way to weigh!)

3. Email the weight of your plastic film to green@dhmsptsa.org.

4. Bring your plastic film to the Cherrydale Safeway, 3713 Langston Blvd, and place it in the white boxes outside the store or the plastic film collection box located just inside the store (where the carts are/candy machines are - it’s in the middle).

APS Launches Home Address Confirmation Process

APS is launching the Home Address Confirmation Process (HACP) to verify the home address of fifth and eighth-grade students in preparation for the 2023-24 school year that requires families of current fifth and eighth-grade students to resubmit or update the home address documents they initially provided during registration. This new process allows APS to maintain accurate student records and to comply with Virginia law and our admissions policy. The deadline to submit these documents is March 15, 2023. If documents are not received by March 15, 2023, or if there are complexities for which additional support is needed, APS will work with those families to help and resolve issues. Learn more online and watch this brief video overview.
