Donate Your Plastic Film Waste & Help DHMS Win a Trex Bench
Holiday season is here, and that means you're probably getting lots of shipping envelopes from online retailers! That's great news because the DHMS Green Team is setting our sights on winning a super cool Trex bench for our school if we can collect 1000 pounds of plastic recycling material. Bring in your CLEAN, DRY plastic film waste like newspaper sleeves, plastic grocery bags, bubble wrap and all of those empty shipping envelopes. Just drop it in the plastic bins in the hallway near the front office and we'll do the rest. Please make sure all of the plastic is CLEAN, DRY and FREE of FOOD RESIDUE.

Advisory Council on Teaching & Learning (ACTL) Update
Advisory Council on Teaching & Learning (ACTL) is made up of representatives from each school to assist in reviewing the system-wide curriculum and instructional program, and in developing recommendations for improvement. In addition to ACTL, there are fourteen program-area advisory subcommittees that report to the council. Six subcommittees have presented to ACTL so far in the 2023/24 school year and they will be making recommendations to the January 9 School Board meeting. These include: ASEAC (Arlington Special Education Advisory Committee); Advances Academics and Talent Development; Early Childhood; English Language Arts; Math; and Social Studies. The newly formed Education Technology (EdTech) Subcommittee will also present a progress report to the School Board. The minutes of each of the ACTL meetings can be found on the web page linked above.
If anyone has any questions about ACTL or ideas/feedback on Arlington Public Schools curriculum and instructional program, please do reach out to DHMS’s representative, Erik Johnson. Also, there are two slots available to each school, so if anyone would like to join Erik as a representative, please do let him know.
