DHMS Equity Team Book Discussion

Tonight: Monday, May 1st 6:30pm

Join the DHMS Equity Team on Monday, May 1st at 6:30 PM for a discussion centered around equity and inclusion. To facilitate the book study, we will read An American Story by Kwame Alexander. Work alongside your student as you participate in “Beauty and Truth” a Project Zero Thinking Routine from Harvard University. We encourage you to purchase or check out a copy of the book at your favorite bookstore or public library. Please complete the registration link, so that we may plan accordingly. Refreshments will be served. Contact Ms. Boyd, the Resource Teacher for the Gifted, at regina.boyd@apsva.us for additional information.

DHMS 8th Grade Parents: ACT NOW!

We need all 8th grade parents to please pay your student’s $25 promotion fee here. This fee covers the expenses for the PTSA organized Promotion Party on Friday, June 9 (Neon Tropical Island themed with food, DJ, dancing, and games) as well as a student year-end gift and the 8th graders class gift to DHMS. If your family is able to make an extra donation, please do so here: Promotion Extra Donation. If you need financial aid, scholarship or payment plan, contact Ms. Schaefer or Christine Katcher.

The trip to King’s Dominion is organized by DHMS administration. 8th graders have all received their King’s Dominion permission slips. Collection is first thing in the morning and during TA every Thursday and Friday until May 12th on the 3rd floor by the grand staircase.

Want to learn more about the 8th grade promotion activities? Do you have questions you’d like answered? Please join the PTSA 8th grade planning committee and Ms. Moore from DHMS for an 8th Grade Promotion Q&A on Tuesday, May 16th at 7:00pm.

Yorktown HS Freshman Football - Rising 8th and 9th Graders

If your child is interested in playing Freshman Football this fall at Yorktown, please consider attending our May Parents Meeting on Wednesday, May 17th at 7:00 pm in Patriots Hall (located across from the main gym). Our head coach, Bruce Hanson along with Coach McBride, head Freshman coach, will be there to talk to you about the YHS football program and answer any questions you may have. Even if your child has not decided, this meeting is a great way to understand exactly what to expect from the program in the event they do choose to play from practice requirements to type of equipment used to coaching style. We have a great set of coaches and most of them actually teach at YHS.

Freshman practices/tryouts begin around August 1. Practices are mandatory and you should expect practices to run Monday - Friday and Saturday mornings during August. All players must have a physical on file with the Athletic Department in order to play. A copy of the physical can be found here - yorktownsports.org/main/filesLinks/. The latest information is posted on Stack Team App so if you have not already done so, please download Stack Team App and access YHS - Football. Once you are at the YHS - Football page, click on the gear icon in the top right corner and request access to Boosters Parent Group - All parents welcome. You may also request access to any additional groups you find relevant.

If you have any questions please send an email to yhsfootballbooster@gmail.com and we're happy to respond to your question or point you in the right direction!

Yorktown HS Field Hockey - Rising 8th and 9th Graders

If your child is interested in playing Field Hockey this fall at Yorktown, please visit our Field Hockey information page on YHSBoosters.org. Even if your child has not decided, this is a great way to understand exactly what to expect from the program in the event they do choose to play from practice requirements to type of equipment used to coaching style. We have a great set of coaches and most of them actually teach in Arlington and with back to back trips to the State Championships (with a win in 2021), we’re a pretty successful team as well.

Freshman practices/tryouts begin around August 1. Practices are mandatory and you should expect practices to run Monday - Friday and Saturday mornings during August. All players must have a VHSL physical dated after May 1, 2023 on file with the Athletic Department in order to play. A copy of the physical can be found here. Additionally, players will need an outdoor Field Hockey stick and shin guards. The latest information is posted on Stack Team App so if you have not already done so, please download Stack Team App and access YHS – Field Hockey. Once you are at the YHS – Field Hockey page, click on the gear icon in the top right corner and request access to Pre-Season 2023 - All parents welcome.

If you have any questions please send an email to yhsfockey@gmail.com or to Coach Shipley, and we're happy to respond to your question or point you in the right direction!
