If you want to help with this recycling event and others this year come to the informational meeting October 3rd for the Green Team club, led by Ms. Thomas. Please contact PTSA Green Team lead, Heather Shinn, with any questions.

That's great news because the DHMS Green Team is setting our sights on winning a super cool Trex bench for our school if we can collect 1000 pounds of plastic recycling material. Starting Monday, November 6, bring in your CLEAN, DRY plastic film waste like newspaper sleeves, plastic grocery bags, bubble wrap and all of those empty shipping envelopes. Just drop it in the plastic bins in the hallway near the front office and we'll do the rest. Please make sure all of the plastic is CLEAN, DRY and FREE of FOOD RESIDUE.

DHMS 8th Grader Fundraiser for Orphaned Children in Mongolia
Hello, my name is Egshiglen Ganbat and I am fundraising money for orphaned children in Mongolia to get through this harsh upcoming winter. Mongolia is a landlocked country in Asia, bordered by Russia and China. Poverty, being one of Mongolia's biggest challenges, causes 400,000 children or 14.5% of the entire population to live on the streets. Poverty can be destructive enough in a hot climate. However, in the severe winters of Mongolia, temperatures can drop to -30 degrees Celsius, leaving orphans nothing but hope to last the winter. In addition to the dangerously cold winters, winter is the season where pollution climbs to its peak. During the wintertime, many Mongolians get warmth in the frosty and frigid temperatures by burning wood and coal in their yurts. Thus, this causes the pollution levels to reach 687 micrograms per cubic meter, which is 27 times the level that the World Health Organization recommends as safe.
Your donation will raise money to buy warm clothing, school supplies, books, masks (to shield from the polluted air), and anything else the orphaned children of the Living Hope orphanage in Mongolia will need to be at their healthiest this winter.
Students can purchase smiles to put on a bulletin board at school for $1 before school in the cafeteria or during TA in Ms. Banks' room (131). Adults can also donate to the GoFundMe. The fundraiser closes on October 31.
