In light of the horrific attacks at Brown University, Bondi Beach in Australia, and elsewhere around the globe, the Duke Human Rights Center is sharing some perspectives on gun violence and human rights from our community.
Dr. Ieva Jusionyte is the Director of the Center for Human Rights and Humanitarian Studies and the Watson Family University Professor of International Security and Anthropology at Brown University. She won the DHRC’s Juan E. Méndez Book Award this year for her book, Exit Wounds: How America’s Guns Fuel Violence Across the Border. Her essay on the shootings at Brown was published in The Boston Globe on December 17, 2025.

Dr. Adam Rosenblatt is the Faculty Director of the Duke Human Rights Center, Professor of the Practice in International Comparative Studies and Cultural Anthropology at Duke, and a cartoonist. His comic, "guns vs. Rights," was researched and drawn in the immediate aftermath of the Brown and Bondi Beach shootings.
