Rights and the Humanities Annual Lecture

We are excited to host Nora Krug as our 2026 guest for the Rights and the Humanities Annual Lecture! Krug is an award-winning German-American writer, illustrator, and graphic novelist, and Associate Professor of Illustration at Parsons School of Design.

Join us Tuesday, March 17 at 5:00pm for her talk, "Belonging: Artist as Witness," in the Ahmadieh Family Lecture Hall in Smith Warehouse Bay 4.

Refreshments will be served at 5:00pm and the lecture will begin at 5:30pm. More event info here ->

Win $500 for your outstanding human rights essay or project! Submit your work to be considered for the Oliver W. Koonz Human Rights Prize anytime between now and April 10. Work created for a Duke course is eligible, but not required!

Human Rights in Action

Early voting has started in North Carolina!

This year's primary election in North Carolina is March 3, and early voting is happening now through Feb 28!

Quick facts for students on VOTING in this election:

Karsh Alumni Center is a Durham County Early Voting site! Early voting is available every day between now and Feb 28 (full early voting schedule here)
North Carolina requires voters to present a photo ID at the polls. You can use your DukeCard or a stateID (like a drivers license).
Your address on your ID does not have to match the address on your voter registration! They're just looking to see that your picture looks like you and matches your name. More info about voter ID in NC here.
The names on the ballot don't have to be a surprise when you show up to vote! If you're already registered, you can view your sample ballot by searching your name on NC Voter Search.
If you're registered to vote outside Durham County or NC and can't travel home to vote, find out how your state handles absentee/mail-in ballots.

Doc+ Summer Program

Duke Center for Documentary Studies

Application due February 27!

Doc+ is a six-week, full-time summer documentary program at Duke during Summer Session 1 that pairs undergraduate students with professional documentary artists working on active projects. Participants collaborate closely with their project teams while also being part of a larger cohort of students across disciplines. The program emphasizes hands-on learning, mentorship, and learning through doing.

Students are supported through either a $3500 stipend OR on-campus housing AND meals. Doc+ is designed for students who are curious, committed, and excited to learn through collaboration and real-world documentary practice.

This year’s projects span podcasts, feature films, live documentary performance, and large-scale production planning. Each project offers students the chance to contribute meaningfully to work already underway.
