Message from the Principal

Dear DHS staff, students, and families,

We would like to extend our congratulations and thanks to all students who recently completed the ACT and Pre-ACT. Your hard work and dedication are truly commendable, and we are proud of each of you for taking this important step in your educational journey. Although some schools experienced significant disruptions during the statewide online ACT implementation, we were able to manage less widespread technical issues that arose with ACT's assistance. We greatly appreciate your patience and flexibility.

Next week on April 15th, for the fifth year, we are hosting an all-District Genocide Commemoration Day. At DHS, classes will be assigned to one of the keynote sessions, and then students will have options to build out the rest of their individual schedules, following their interests through the Learn, Remember and Take Action components of the programming.

This annual event is made possible through the generous sponsorship of the District 113 Foundation and a grant from the DHS PTO, as well as the support of the District 113 administration and Board of Education. Special thanks to the Illinois Holocaust Museum for their guidance and support.

Sincerely,

Principal Anderson

K9 Team Update

Friday, April 11 will be the last day for K9 Jinx at Deerfield High School. She is relocating to New York for a new assignment in Manhattan. While Jinx has been amazing at the school and loves the community, this new assignment will be a better fit for her drive and skill-set.

We are pleased to welcome our new K9, Rizz, who is a German Shorthaired Pointer (pictured left). Rizz is young and energetic and will be a great addition to our team. Rizz is in the final stages of his training and certification and will transition to DHS on Monday, April 14th.

Our third K9, Jera, is also in the process of receiving official certification in Mobile Odor Detection and will be sharing duties with Rizz at Deerfield High School. Having an additional K9 fully-trained in Weapons Detection allows us to avoid service disruptions at both of our high schools.

We look forward to working with Rizz and K9 Handler Melodie as they continue the important work of keeping our students and staff safe.
