Message from the Principal
Dear DHS Staff, Students, and Families,

Thank you to every student, staff member, and parent/guardian for making our first week back to full-day, in-person learning possible. It has been a joy to welcome more students back into our building AND do so with everyone following mitigation protocol. Your cooperation, patience, and postive energy has truly made a positive impact on our first week back. Now, we can only hope that the nice weather we had at the beginning of the week will return soon!

Next week, please recall that we have a slight change in schedule due to the SAT for juniors on Tuesday. In particular, Monday is an in-person 78-day. Please see the details below under Happening Next Week.

Looking ahead to the following week, we have a special event planned for Monday, April 19. Each year, DHS hosts a Genocide Commemortation Day dedicated to honoring victims and survivors with a variety of experiences that we hope will provide meaningful remembrances, inspiring stories and awareness of current issues that may move many to action. This year, we are very proud to work with Highland Park High School for a district wide event. Since Monday, April 19 is an asychronous, remote day, teachers will enable students to use this day to virtually engage with speakers, faculty led discussions, and much more. Please click here for more information about the speakers and ways to participate. We are very grateful for our staff and student committee that have worked tirelessly to create such a necessary and meaningful event.

Sincerely,
Principal Kathryn Anderson

Counseling
Cultivating Resilience Through Physical Health and Habits of the Mind
Resilience is the capacity to recover from and adapt to challenging situations. It isn’t something we are born with; rather, resilience is a process that is cultivated over time. It’s no different than how educators regularly create strategies and processes to overcome obstacles in their teaching practice in order to reach their goals. Right now, resilience is important because situations in our school communities are more challenging than we ever anticipated. There are ways for us to cultivate resilience in both our bodies and minds, which are not separate but intertwined. It is important to care for both.
