A Diabetes Test without Needles? AI-Powered Retinal Imaging Could Make it a Reality.

India and US researchers are advancing a needle-free diabetes screening tool using AI-enabled retinal imaging. The project is led by investigators from Yenepoya University, the Madras Diabetes Research Foundation, the Emory Global Diabetes Research Center, and the Emory AI.Health Institute and their findings show how retinal biomarkers from routine eye exams could identify type 2 diabetes and prediabetes—no blood draw required—offering a scalable, non-invasive approach with global public health potential.

Collaboration in Action at the GCDTR Summit

Morehouse School of Medicine hosted the Georgia Center for Diabetes Translation Research (GCDTR) Research Summit on January 29, 2026 for a full day of collaboration and strategic exchange. The summit brought together pilot awardees, faculty, program leaders, and community partners to share research, highlight real-world impact, and explore how to move diabetes translation from innovative ideas to meaningful, community-centered outcomes.
