Dental implants are a crucial part of modern dentistry, and understanding their outcomes is essential for improving patient care. The Dental Implant Restoration Registry (DIRR) Study is a 3-year prospective cohort study that aims to investigate the parameters associated with the success of implant therapy, as well as the rate of prosthetic and biologic implant complications.

In the third webinar for the DIRR study, Principal Investigator Dr. Nico Geurs and study practitioner Dr. Andrew Shuler presented updates on the DIRR study. They provided baseline data and characteristics following the first cohort of patients reaching the one-year milestone. The DIRR study continues to recruit dentists who restore implants. This is a unique opportunity for dental professionals to contribute to a nationwide study that will advance our understanding of dental implant restoration. By participating in the DIRR study, dentists can stay updated with the latest trends and best practices in dental implant restoration.

The purpose of this prospective, observational study conducted within the National Dental Practice-Based Research Network (PBRN) is to quantify the incidence of biologic and prosthetic complications and assess risk factors for implant complications.

We’re planning to work with about 200 dentists from six different areas. They’ll help us study about 1550 patients and around 2000 implants over time.

By being part of this study, you’re helping us learn more about the risks of diseases around implants. This kind of study gives us better information to share with dentists and patients about possible problems, which seem to happen quite a bit with implant restorations.

The DIRR reached an important milestone in December 2023. Practitioners from all over the country have enrolled 1,000 implants. Thank you for helping us reach this amazing goal!

Here are some preliminary descriptive data:

PAAS is a randomized controlled trial testing the effectiveness of adjunctive antibiotics versus placebo for the treatment of periodontitis. We need 36 practitioners from the South Central, South Western, and Western regions to enroll patients with periodontitis undergoing scaling and root planing. Contact us if you are interested!
