Elevating Preaching Conference
Leading from the Pulpit
September 16, 2019
Goodson Chapel of Duke Divinity School
Hosted by CBFNC and Duke Divinity School

Featured Speakers
Amy Butler, Kate Bowler, Greg Jones,
and Naomi Tyler-Lloyd
The pulpit at Whaleman’s Chapel in  Moby Dick  “was in the likeness of a ship’s bluff bows, and the Holy Bible rested on a projecting piece of scroll work, fashioned after a ship’s fiddle-headed beak.” When the preacher ascended into the lofty pulpit, rather than climbing a set of stairs, he rose in sailor-like fashion by means of a rope ladder. It is a powerful image of the Word proclaimed from the pulpit as the leading edge of the church.

This year’s theme for Elevating Preaching is “Leading from the Pulpit.” We have a remarkable program with sermons from the Rev. Dr. Naomi Tyler Lloyd, pastor of Trinity Baptist Church in Bronx, New York, and the Rev. Dr. Amy Butler, recently of Riverside Church in New York City. Duke Divinity Dean L. Gregory Jones and Professor Kate Bowler will deliver lectures on the theme during the meeting. Come join us in the elevation of preaching on September 16. Registration ends September 11. For more information, visit our website .

September 20–22, 2019  |     Fort Caswell

Be Still . . .
Young people are in such a rush with packed schedules, too little sleep,
and societal expectations that success means always being on the go.
When do they experience the spiritual discipline of "rest"?
Meet our worship leaders!

Our preacher for the week will be Jenny Lee, director of youth and Christian education at First Presbyterian Church of Sanford. Our musician will be Rhody Mastin, children's pastor at Emmaus Way Church in Durham.
Jenny Lee
Rhody Mastin
Youth grades 7-12* are invited to explore and experience the spiritual discipline of "rest" at this year's Youth Beach Retreat! We will gather at Fort Caswell where Rhody Mastin and Jenny Lee will lead us in worship and fun. Please be sure to register yourself (group leader), all youth participants, and chaperones. Learn more here !

* Sixth graders are welcome if that is how the church categorizes its youth group.
CBFNC is here for students!
CBFNC has 10 campus ministry groups on state campuses in NC and we partner with several other private college campuses who have groups as well. We would love to connect with students that you know are coming to these campuses so that we can reach out to them before they even get there.

Trust is an integral part of students connecting with people on campus. Helping them connect with people that you know and trust is very important as they navigate these new waters.

& November 18–21, 2019 (Eagle Eyrie Conference Center)

CHC presents S.T.E.P.™ (Strategic Transition Education Program)- the next generation in interim ministry. This training is based on the principles developed by Russell Crabtree in Transition Apparitions: Why Much of What We Know about Pastoral Transitions Is Wrong .
