COVID-19 RELIEF

Small and midsize employers will benefit from two new refundable payroll tax credits , designed to immediately and fully reimburse them for the cost of providing Coronavirus-related family and medical leave and sick leave to their employees.

The Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) requires certain public employers and private employers with fewer than 500 employees to provide their employees with paid sick leave or expanded family and medical leave for specified reasons related to COVID-19. Each covered employer must post in a conspicuous place on its premises a notice of FFCRA requirements. These provisions will apply from April 1, 2020, through December 31, 2020.

MANAGING A CORONAVIRUS-RELATED
PROJECT SHUTDOWN

When a hurricane or other disaster forces the closing of a jobsite, owners and contractors can be reasonably assured that, barring severe physical property damage, everyone will be back to work in short order. However, the coronavirus pandemic has led contractors, material suppliers and other industry vendors into uncharted waters.

GUIDANCE FOR CONTRACTORS DEALING
WITH IMPACTS OF CORONAVIRUS

The impacts that the Coronavirus has had and will continue to have on the construction industry and construction projects are significant and wide reaching. More and more states and localities are issuing complete or partial mandatory shut downs of projects. With respect to projects that are continuing to work, impacts at the project site could include the need for enhanced safety and hygienic requirements, social distancing measures, and interruptions and shut downs due to people testing positive. Labor availability has been impacted by people having to stay home to take care of family members or attend to child care issues, quarantines and people generally reluctant or unwilling to work due to fear of exposure.
